Squeaky Rollbar

Featured Replies

Hi ya:

My wife has had no end of problems with either knocks or squeaks comming from the front rollbar. (2002 Fabia 50k miles).

The rollbar was replaced under warranty due to knocking noises

The rollbar was replaced at my expense when it strated to squeak

Approximately a month ago the squeak started again. The garage fiddled with something and the squeak stopped for about 10 days Then it started again so the rollbar was replaced - that was about 14 days ago.

Today it started to squeak again !!! It definitely is the rollbar because I got my 3 adult children to bounce up and down on the wing whilst I listended underneath.

Has anybody got any comments about the rollbars on Fabias?

undo the bolts slightly and spray a good quality lube into the bush

mind you i'm guessing the dealer probaby did this last time you took it in

White PTFE Comma spray grease. Do the drop links and wishbone bushes while your at it.

Disconnect the drop links and see if the noise stops, this will confirm diagnosis.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I’m posting this in case it may help somebody else in future.

The car went into a local VAG independent repairer today. He tried a trick which seems to have worked. All he did was loosen the nuts on the wishbone and then re-tighten all of them to precisely the same torque setting. No grease was used. Bingo! The creaking stopped.

Not sure why. Maybe loosening the wishbone nuts slightly allowed the suspension to “settle” properly?

Anyway. There we go. I’ll let you know if the creaking comes back!
