Transponder programming (keys)

Featured Replies

I am having problems getting a new un-programmed transponder programmed in SWMBO Golf MK5.

I have a working SKC (cheers ) but the new transponder doesn't want to match to the car.

Now according to the measuring blocks, (on the new transponder)

1. "key status (transponder lock)" is NO, so the transponder is indeed new and has not been coded before, correct?

But the

2. "engine start permitted"

3. "variable code authorized"

4. "fixed code authorized"

are all also NO, whereas on the current key / transponder (which is working fine) these are all YES.

So am i doing something wrong (i followed these Immobilizer IV Key Matching Instructions)

or is the transponder the wrong one for the MK5 Golf? (the seller lists it as suitable)

(I have tried this on both VCDS 805.3 & Beta 812)

is this a secondhand key from ebay.

If the golf is the same as the octy2 then keys that have been used on another car cannot be programmed to another ecu. Only new unused keys can be programmed.

It is from eBay, but it has a brand new un-programmed transponder in, so effectively it is a new key.

probably you have there transporder III. gen it looks same like IV. gen. or you have keys from Skoda/Seat, immo IV. gen. supported just same mark of producer, the key from Skoda doesnt work in WV.

The seller is listing them as purely VW transponders, to fit the MK5 as well as a Scirocco (plus lots of others).

I think you may be right in it being a III. gen though.

There was a batch of theoretically compatible transponders on the market which showed the same problems like you described them. Sounds like incompatible ones after all...

write here part number according to U/we can find how it is compatible

Cheers Sebastian, that is what i thought.

Yes, i had their details, waiting to call them tomorrow.

No part No.s are visible on the transponder, the seller has agreed to a full refund, but i just wanted to make sure i was doing nothing wrong before i returned it.

Update on this,

I bought another new blade & transponder from Hickleys (AKTP2) which arrived yesterday, got the new blade cut, but I'm still having the same issues.

Now with my current (fully working key) under channel 01 (25 Immobilizer, Adaption) the stored value is always 1,

I change it to 2 then save, done, Go back, etc (as per the Ross Tech Instructions) the second key sometimes then appears to code - the car will start, BUT the immobilizer light on the dash flashes away!, (the current key/remote is placed behind the passenger seat on the floor whilst I am doing this, maybe the current transponder is still in range??)

When I try to start the car a second time the immobilizer cuts in and stalls the engine once it has started. Proving the key is not programmed.

If I then go back to channel 01 (with the new key in the ignition) it comes up with "ERROR Channel 01 Not Available", If I try with the current key the stored value is 1 again.

I have also tried programmed zero keys - and neither key started the car.

If i then program the current key it works again (proving I'm doing something right!)

There are no fault codes with the current key, but the new key displays the following faults:

I forgot to say that i have even tried:

Current transponder

New Key blade

New remote

It then all works as it should

So it is definitely transponder related, either i am not programming it correctly (if that was the case then surely i wouldn't of been able to program zero keys - no key worked, then back to 1 key - it worked correctly again would i?)

But why am i getting "ERROR Channel 01 Not Available" with the new transponder? is it another non compatable transponder?

I spoke to Hickleys before i ordered it and they assured me it was the correct transponder for my car.

  • Author

It turns out hickleys have supplied the wrong transponder (they supplied one for a non CAN based car!)

The correct one is in the post - although it costs 5 times as much than the non CAN based ones.

Hopefully it will be 3rd time lucky. If any one with a non CAN based car requres a transponder look in the items for sale

  • Author

All sorted and took less than 5 mins to do from start to finish (although i was becoming an expert on how to do it!) at least it's pleasing to know i wasn't doing anything wrong. ;)

  • 4 months later...

OK, what is a CAN car?

Just bought 2 of these for a 2002 n a 51 Fab Tdi Estate:

AKTP2

• VW - Audi - Seat - Skoda 1998 Models On

• AD100/MVP Programmable

  • Author

CAN based is the new Fabia, Octavia & Superb.

A 2002 Fabia is non CAN based so the AKTP2 should be the correct one for your car.
