mirrors acting strange!!!

Featured Replies

I noticed something strange today when i had to move my mirrors on my 04 oct vrs, that when you put them on the left setting you can move the left mirror but when you go to put it on the right setting it moves both mirrors left and right.

has anyone else suffered with this problem?

cheers

That is the way the later mirror switches work. Not sure when it changed but my 51 Octavia does it too since I had to replace the switch.

Yes it's a normal function mate. I believe it's to help parking so you can move both mirrors down to see kerbs or lines.

cheers guys im glad its not another thing going wrong with the car lol. i think it must have been the first time i have moved the mirrors since owning the car.

Does anyone know if this feature can be disabled as I find it really annoying. Would so much prefer it if both mirrors could be moved independently.

I suspoect the only way to prevent it might be to source an switch from an early Octy. Something before 2001 I would imagine as my 2001 (Y) can shift both mirrors together.

How often do people adjust their mirrors!? I've moved mine about 3 times in as many years.

Much the same as me. I set them when I bought the car. Even when the GF drove it, she never moved the exterior mirrors, just the seat and interior mirror.

And I'll bet I'm on and off ferries, with people squeezing past the sides of the car and bumping the mirrors, more than most people.

SWMBO always seems to make a point of moving the mirrors whenever she drives my car. I get in afterwards and usually I can only see the rear doors or the floor. That's if I don't kneecap myself getting in to start with.

Lol my ex wife was like that. I swear if the airbag was ever deployed she would have been thrown through the rear window  How do woman sit so unnaturally close to the windscreen is beyond me :D

My sis, who's 2" shorter than me, is the reverse. If I drive her car, I need to get in, then get out of the back seat so I can reach the controls! ;)

Equally, my mum is only about 4'13", but I only need to move the seat and interior mirror to drive her car.

... my mum is only about 4'13"...

how tall???

lol.... maybe 4ft13 sounds more impressively short than 5ft1

I regularly used to see a woman driving an old Nova and she was so close to the wheel her forehead actually touched the sun visor.

Which is lack of confidence more than anything else.

I used to regularly see a woman who was so short/sitting so low she looked through the top of the steering wheel. Ok, that was on a Merc 500SLC, but even so...

My car ('03 octy vrs) used to work both mirrors independantly until i had to replace the drivers mirror. They now both move at the same time when right mirror selected and the switch is original . Maybe the mirrors themselves are different and not the switch???
