Columbus swap

Featured Replies

Last night someone broke into my car and stole my Bolero. With this occasion I ordered a new Columbus unit. Now,I have a few questions.

1.Will the old wires match the new unit?(I think the navigation won't be working, but will the MFSW buttons,Maxi-Dot display,Climatronic/PDC display work?)

2.Does the car have the GPS antenna already mounted or I have to buy one?

3.If I buy one of those TV antenna, will the TV work?

4.Is there something else I need to buy to make it fully operational?(Any other cables or adaptors?)Or do I need to do some adaptions using VCDS?

BTW I don't have bluetooth,so I won't need any new wires or adaptors for that.

Thanks.

If this Columbus is coming from a dealer, then you will probably need to get the following things:

1) GPS antenna

2) Maps DVD (v4 is now out)

I believe the loom is compatible, so you should be okay on that score.

If it's an eBay special, then you quite often get a GPS antenna included, and the maps will probably be loaded on the HDD.

The TV capability is optional, and you car would need to already have the TV tuner module installed. If you didn't have it before, then it's not going to work now.

As for VCDS adaption, then I believe there are some changes you can make, but I don't believe they are essential to get it to work. vRStu would be your best bet on this one.

Bagpuss.

The unit is coming from the dealer.I bought a new one.

Anything I should know about the GPS antenna?I guess it must be a special one.

I'll buy the maps DVD too,so that shouldn't be a problem.

Regarding VCDS if anyone can tell me it would be great because I only have the Vag-Com 704.1(Hex-Can USB) and I'm not sure if it works on this car.If I need to make some changes it would be good to know so that I can get the latest version of VCDS.

Later Edit:I asked someone about the TV.There are 2 possibilities.

1)Buy a DVB-T which is a digital tuner,but you also need MEDIA-IN.So,this will go around 500 euros.

2)Buy a "hybrid" Tv Tuner(analog+digital),which is around 1000 euros.

They are not even plug&play.I'm not going to spend this amount only for a TV,I have it at home :-)
