Its the antilag, it's sending unburnt fuel through the cylinders into the exhaust manifold then burning it in the manifold to keep the turbo spooling so it boosts as soon as they launch. Kills the turbo in no time at all but then these rally teams have a box of turbos on standby

They do sound like a bag of spanners driving around at normal speeds, but once they get going they sound fantastic.

A while back I worked next to where they had the service park in Cardiff, the team cars didn't sound like normal road cars either. Mind you they didn't exactly drive around slowly
