Creaking anti roll bar - after brand new bushes!!

Featured Replies

I had a set of brand new Superpro poly front anti-roll bar bushes fitted on Wednesday.

I picked the car up and drove the 2 miles home and all was well.

Got in the car this morning and it was creaking something terrible!!

I have a suspicion they didn't grease the bushes when they were fitted.

Can this be done now? Can I just spray some lithium grease over them in position or will they have to come off again?

This thread contains a thorough description from Lex Dysia of how to grease them up nicely so the squeak disappears... HTH. From reading the thread it seems you are spot on with the lithium.

I fitted mine last year, during this winter the white grease supplied got washed off and the creaked something terrible.

Last friday I whipped them off and they were near dry.

Cue lashings of copperslip and now they are perfect.

I did try sparying them with litium spray which quietened them down a touch, but really you need them off.

HTH

I have this exact same problem! Replaced the bushes a few weeks back, and now it creaks!

I smothered the bushes in Lithium grease when I did it, but it's obviouly not done the job.

I have been told by Lex that removing the plastic sleeves from the bar is the cure. (Run the bushes directly on the bar). Apparently moisture gets under the plastic sleeves causing the creaking. So next time I get the chance I'll pop the bushes out and slide the plastic sleeves out of the way.

I'd just replace the bar if it wasn't such an **** of a job!

Mate I remember that creaking  drove me mad for months. Must be the grease that comes with the polybushes.

Been 4 months since I did it and it's not returned. If I did it again I would still use copper grease over lithium as I think it's a more durable grease.

I just lubed mine - I have no skin on the knuckles of my left hand now from slipping off the last bolt when tightening it.

Oh well this sounds like a familiar problem. I thought something was past it's due date but if it's only the ARB bushes then it's nothing really serious. Oughta do something about it though, it does get pretty annoying

Water gets under the bush, it then gets under the plastic coating that covers the plastic sleeve, rust forms, bubbles up, and the bar needs replacing.

If you cut the moulded plastic sleeve away from the bar, you just expose the rusted area, and this would wear the bushes even quicker.

Also if you take the plastic sleeve away you alter the size of the bush needed.

Had this problem on my old Octy vRS and a new modified bar and bushes, without the plastic sleeves cured the problem.
