Am I the first fabia diesel to fail MOT on exhaust noise?

Featured Replies

Just wondering. :D Not surprising considering I have little more than 6 feet of 2.5" pipe coming off a hybrid turbo..... Having a silencer chopped in soon.

Also failed on dodgy lower ball joints and headlamp aim which are minor things. Aside from that, clean bill of health, and was glad to be made aware of lower ball joints sooner than later as they're key to good handling.

waheeeeeeeeeeeeeey LOLLLLL im sorry this just made me smile haha

Very probably. I've known several TDs break the system, and the driver only become aware when he heard the bits knocking on bumps, or something such! One box will probably do it; can you use the cat or mid box space and keep the side exit?

Not quite.

Luke's old fabia once went for an MOT and was turned away because the exhaust system was louder than standard :s

Sure is (for now)

Mine past last year with the same exhaust minus it running all the way to the back of the car, rather the out of the side!

Im taking mine down for a MOT in a few weeks me thinks, I reckon smoke/no dash might mean I fail!

Well as standard the Fabia vrs only has a cat and a back box to silence it. There is no middle silencer which I though there would have been.

Does that mean when I put my Milltek system on that it will fail on noise as well? I thought the exhaust was fairly quiet as standard in comparison to some of the rubbish that drives round here.

Can't imagine what it sounds like.

It is a bit loud even for me in the car, so I think to keep me sane on long journies, it makes sense to get a silencer in. At least it will be the same bore as the exhaust, and is a "straight through" so on full power, it should sound real nice. But it will cut down on most of the droning and noise at tickover and when cruising. :)

Silencer is off a Land Rover Defender....

Hello,

Didn't realize MOT stations had sound detecters to register decibels from exhaust note??

UKMOT.com MOT Manual 6.3 Exhaust System

Reason for rejection.....

a. a part of the system missing or excessively deteriorated.....

b. a silencer in such a condition' date=' or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a silencer in average condition[/quote']

UKMOT site, Thats a good link mate, worth reading when MOT time comes up.

Well, just got back from having the silencer fitted. Definitely has cut down the noise a LOT at tickover and general driving which is actually very pleasing for me. :) Only a tiddly land rover silencer but importantly was the same bore as my original "pipe" so went on like a dream. Only £30 cash too as it was basically labour - the box was just lying around at the garage conveniently. PS: The below was taken whilst work was going on. The box sits a bit higher than that.
