all quiet on the stockport front

Featured Replies

now then....there was some talk about a possible meet round the stockport area but all appears to have gone quiet-soapywalrus and tenmen, you moved areas?:( id still be up for the idea of a shifty pint, names to faces and a gander at other members skoda's. in tenmens case, a real skoda, not a VAG wannabe:D must be possible with the amount of skodas ive seen in the area of late.

Not far for me, so yeah a meet somewhere could be good. Just name a venue :)

Otherwise, you're more or less bang in the middle of the NW meet at Stretton Fox (J10 M56) or the Malthouse meet.

cheers steve-not thought of venue yet, theres a few pubs near the m60 stockport junction but most are pretty poor and no parking to speak of, might do a reccy in the next week. cant make the next stretton fox as on my jollys-malthouse back to my roots as im a yorkie living in exile so could be a possible.

Not moved, just been away from tinterweb for a few days.

How about we sort things in this order...

1) name venue (doesn't have to be right in the middle of town - I am sure we can all drive!!!!

2) set date and time subject to members availability

So, let's get thinking of pubs within striking distance of SK1 that have parking and aren't full of 16 year olds in trackies (ie - places my clients don't go...)

we gonna be hard pressed in stockport then:D

how about Bamford arms on A6 out past the college in macclesfield direction its got a car park and clientelle appear to be over age of criminal responsibility:)

Know its not a pub, but if there are only a few of you, how about Asda Carpark 3, which is on the other side of the road, and is always dead!

They park there home shopping vans in there, but other than that, no one ever goes down there!

There is light, and also keep dry if it rains.

Would prefer a pub-based meet personally. To me it doesn't have to be particularly near the town centre either. Might be more suitable choices elsewhere, a bit further out?

Sorry, that probably isn't that constructive, but I don't know many pubs in the area - never go out drinking round Stockport :)

Steve

Never been Stockport

Not sure about the Asda car park idea - feel like I've come a long way since them days!

Don't mind going a bit further afield - but still struggling for suggestions...

Hayfield's not too far from Stockport - we've done meets before which started at Tesco Didsbury, then we worked our way down and across to Hayfield via some scenic routes (I forget the specific route). Big car park right in the middle of the village with a few pubs round it.

i agree about not doing asda car park-yes its dry but it resembles a scene from the 1st Highlander movie, also its a bit anti social! Hayfield would be a nice drive but is a bit further out for those wanting easy access to the m60.

A bit nearer is Hazel Grove south of Stockport on the A6, loads of pubs. Theres the rising sun pub just past Torkington Park at the far end of Hazel grove but not sure about the parking. Hazel Grove about 15 mins drive from Stockport and the M60-when the traffic aint too bad-it can take 30-40 mins after work.

My 1st suggestion- Bamford Arms- does have a fairly large car park which looks out over A6 and you can sit outside if there is some sun . big advantage is that it really is a 5 min drive from m60 junction so easy access for all.

I will try to have a look this weekend and report back with any suitable venues.

Anyone got ideas about times?

Dan

Finish work at 5.15 if I leave on time, so pretty flexible after that

It's not that easy for me to get to meets, but the reopened Midway on on New Bridge Lane is VG. I think they were having a few problems with the 'carnies' in town for the funfair that's next to Tesco (who are camped out on the public carpark about 1/4 mile away), but that seems to have died down now. The bar's nice, and the food's lovely!

Hi Guys.

I live in Bramhall which is the next village to Hazel grove and my girlfriend lives in Hazel Grove. What about the Vernon arms in Poynton? It has a huge car park and is very nice inside.

The rising sun has a small car park and is always full but then you have the bulls head but im not quite sure what its like inside.

Is that the one on the other side of the road to the park pub? yeah its not bad in there if thats the one you mean and not far from m60 for easy access. small car park if remember.

cheers for info phil:thumbup:Is the Vernon the big pub on the crossroads in Poynton? these pubs are further out but none that far or hard to find. i will have a little drive up at the weekend and check out the bulls head-any others you can think of in the grove phil?

Maybe 5.30- 6pm ish when a suitable venue is located, then maybe can have somthing for tea! Also might cut out the dullness of the rush hour crawl, especially if you get stuck on a57

Depending on date i will pop down as i'm only in Macc.

I think you will be better making it around 7pm as people will need to get there and traffic around Poynton at 5pm is a nightmare.

Vernon Arms is about 500 yards from the main crossroads in the centre heading towards Macclesfield on the left.

Sounds like that's worth a shot, even if it's a bit further out. Still no problem for me to get there, and can come up with a reasonable route too :)

As for times, personally I'd go with a similar plan to the regular Malthouse or the recent NW meet at Stratton Arms, with a meet from 7.30. Leaving it open-ended and flexible for people works well I think, as I can never guarantee when I'll get anywhere on a weeknight. So 7 onwards might be a good idea?

sounds like 7-ish more popular for people and if you guys dont mind going a little further out of stockport thats fine,it aint too far for me. anybody got a prefered day in the week? i might go for a sly pint at the Vernon to check it out over weekend:D

Sounds fine. Will probably be nearer 8 for me. How about a Thursday?

You were up late Steve, burning the midnight oil?:)Thursdays a good day for me too:thumbup: Anyone else?

Dan

That's not late, believe me :)

How soon we looking at having this? Can't do next Thurs personally (doesn't stop everyone else of course ;)) and the next Thurs is the Malthouse meet, so some may be attending there?

maybe the midway point between the malthouse meets if they r every month. i cant do the week begining easter monday. Maybe 3-4 weeks time. had a quick look today at some of pubs mentioned above-Vernon arms seemed ok, rising sun car park is too small. there is a pub called Legh Arms on crossroads just out of Poynton towards Macclesfield with a HUGE car park. looked ideal if the distance aint a prob for those coming from m60. took me 20 mins from stockport today so not too bad.

Dan

Do any of you lot have a Black Furby (non VRS) that would have been parked across the road from the Guywood Centre in Romily today? Was there all day, been there for a hen party kept eyeing it up out the window. Also spotted a black VRS on the M56 on way home tonight with a red stripe on its ***.
