Problem with RNS510

Featured Replies

hi , recently purchased an rns 510 however when I try to put the volume up above 60-70%+ one of the speaker cuts off and on, and keeps doing this. Anyone have any ideas what this is? is it the dvd unit? wiriing possibly?

Thanks,

Jacob

Possibly the amp in the Columbus I'd think.

Maybe you could try doing a full reboot and also check the firmware revision.

60-70% must be VERY loud, I never use mine over 40% and thats loud enough for me. As stu said you are most likely overloading the amplifier causing a thermal cutout.

Does it cut out as soon as the volume is cranked up? is it more prone to cutting out when its been running for a while or does it do it from cold?

Does the Columbus have a cooling fan like the MFD2? it might be worth checking this is working if fitted.

nah it doesn't do it immediately , it does it very randomly when the volume is up. Unfortunately being the person I am I do enjoy a bit of loud music. But I've noticed it tends to happen with song that have more bass/ deep notes. Not sure... a bit confused. It does have a fan and it does work. Also I think it might be that the car has rear speakers but there not currently plugged. Why you may ask? Skoda, Skoda australia. Instead of fitting the wiring into the harness they simply just span the wiring and fitted it into the loom (without a clip, welding etc). Could this be the case?

I haven't tried because I'm trying to look for the correct clip to use, I'd hate damaging the existing harness...

Sorry, forgot to ask how to do a full reboot?

If you don't have all speakers connected then the Columbus Amp won't like it.

interesting...

I hope it's that, didn't like paying all that for a columbus and it won't work. It looks very nice too, very nice system... only problem is trying to get an Australian map. The dealers don't even have an idea... sooo I guess thats another thread

I have the same problem with my columbus. Is there someone who found the cause already?
