do I need to fudge the wear sensor with the DS2500 pads?

don't know - mine don't have wear sensors - Q?

Yes...cut ends off and short together.

DS2500 fronts are around

If you go virtual shopping on

http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/

you can get Black diamond grooved discs and Ferodo DS Performance (2000) pads together with

oooh I should add that the Ferodo Performance Pads have a wear sensor connection included... no fudging required :)

(p.s could someone tell me if these are weak poo pads please ? Have I bought OEM in drag ?)

Thanks - i'll have a look on that site now.

Figure anything has to be better than the standard ones. Not looked into how much they are to swap at a dealer.

The warning light is not on yet (didnt know I had one) so maybe I am a bit premature. They are squaking a lot more latley and seem less effective. COuld be ive just knackered them.

disks are

It'd be rare for the discs to need replacing with the first set of pads - how old is the car?

If you have some WD40, a socket set, some welly, some decent screwdrivers, a G-Clamp (and axle stands and copper grease... sure I've missed something) and some time then you could DIY and it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling to be doing something yourself that you thought was tricky to your car... then again you may not be nuts in the head like me + others on here :) and prefer a dealer to do the work

Dunno but the warning sensor is on the nearside front pad... its one of those click the little plastic bit in a plug to get out wotnots... click back in sensor thingys

Yup - about half an hour a side. Not difficult at all. You should have the proper winder tool really - the pistons are meant to be rotated as they're pushed back. I have one in my boot ...... :P

What's the WD40 for? Don't remember using that. On the other hand you might need a small hammer for chipping the rust off the edge of the disc so you can slide the caliper off.

I just like the smell Nick :)

Another thing worth mentioning is that Halfords have stopped stocking the Syke Pickevant products (don't know why)

They now do "Laser" tools (s*^t name I know)

Their brake caliliper piston re-wind tool suitable for the Octy is PN 1314

Probably not much use to hardly anyone anywhere... but it took me a few days to solve the conundrem

its 51 plate car, which about (cant remember!) 26,000 miles on it. Dunno if they are still the original disks & pads as I got the car in Jan this year.

I have never changed pads on any car I have owned. What we need is a nice briskoda gude to doing this with pictures n stuff. (cue....) :D

between us ... we should really be able to do that

if we can't manage that then we are wasting our time TBH

I might re-do mine v soon and just happen to take some snaps ... if you know what I mean :)

When it comes to documenting stuff...

Then you get onto the fact that you don't have any space to host photos... then you get onto... then ....... and if you do host it somewhere, how long will that host last blah blah... you can tell I'm not an internet expert :(

Maybe an Internet expert could give their advice ... here (or somewhere more relevant maybe ((thinking of Q))) :):):)

Jack car up

Remove wheel

At back of caliper, remove two bolts holding it to the hub carrier

Slide caliper off disc sideways (you may need to chip some rust off the edge of the disc if there's a noticeable lip)

Remove old pads from caliper. The fronts have ears on so have to be pushed back along the piston axis until they free from the calipers. The inboard ones have spring clips that fit inside the piston bore - can be a bit of a b*tch to get back in :D

Wind back piston using the appropriate tool

Insert new pads with a smear of copper grease on the back

Replace caliper and tighten bolts

Replace wheel

Let down car off jack

Apply brake pedal a few times before setting off until it firms up

Repeat for other side

Go for a test drive and bed in.

Only thing to note is that brakes get very dirty, but should really be kept very clean. So clean as you go, but expect to get dirty.

Over to you for the pics, Pete

Little tip... I find it easier if you remove the "top" bolt but just loosen the lower one, then you can "hinge" the caliper out without it dropping it on the brake line...
