Tow Bar

Featured Replies

My Dad wants to get a tow bar fitted to his Furby TDI Elegance, as his is nearling completion of his 7.25 inch guage model steam locomotive and needs to be able to transport it to the track etc. Now this thing is very heavy. I was wondering a couple of things:

1. Should he get a tow bar fitted by the Skoda dealer or by a tow bar specialist.

2. If he gets a non Skoda one will it effect his warranty?

3. Is a Furby TDi up to pulling a heavy trailer (it is the 1.9 TDi engine)?

1. possibly - but I've been looking into getting one cheap off ebay, and wouldn't get one unless it was specified it would definitely fit a Fabia.

2. Not sure - not a lot a towbar can affect warranty wise - as it just hangs off the back and isn't an "aftermarket" mod, just another choice.

3. I should think so - Its still 176 lb ft of torque which will help with pulling a trailer - I reckon a furby TDI wouldn't have much bother with a caravan either, but one is never gracing my car. I've been wondering if my car could pull a car trailer with a ton and a half of car on it, but think that would be pushing my little beast's ability.

1. Specialist. It will cost more at the dealer and they won't know how to do it as well and probably send it to the local tow bar place to fit....

2. No as long as the towbar is EC type approved. The EC made a directive in 1990's saying that fitting of a approved towbar is no longer reason to negate a warrenty claim.

3. Yes but the simple way to check if to get the weight of what you want to pull, and if it is more than 80% of the cars weight you'll not be allowed to.

Whitter is one of the major suppliers along with brink and will list where both can be fitted and price on their website which I got incrottect and somebody has kindly listed the correct version below.
