Timing chain!

Featured Replies

Got a noisy timing chain, so think it needs changing.

Question, do I need any special tools to do this job.

Also I have an oil leak on the t/c cover so can do this as well, does this come out easy enough.

No special tools really. Just make sure you have a decent set off tools to hand.

You will need to scrape the old gasket off the sump and the timing chain cover.

Also it is advised that you change the crankshaft oil seal too.

You will also need to drop the engine down slightly at one end to gain enough clearance to get the crankshaft pulley off.

Make sure nothing turns while you've got it all apart and set the no.1 piston at TDC. I didn't bother clamping anything to stop it turning was just extra careful!

Took me around 3 hours in total to do and relatively easy tbh.

How do you "drop the engine down" ? axle stands and a jack under the oil sump ?

how did you do it !?
