Advice on '06' Superb 2.0 140bhp

Featured Replies

I have purchased a Nov 06 pre face lift Superb with 21,000 on the clock and am picking it up tomorrow. I have now read the threads concerning the DPF  and am now wondering whether I have done the right thing in purchasing this model, should I call the dealer and get them to check something out before I pick it up or should I just follow the advice about driving styles posted up on previuos threads?

I hope someone could advise me on this!

I would just follow the advice on the driving style personally (just make sure the DPF light is not lit on the dash).

Have you checked the passenger side (front and rear) carpets are bone dry? that would be my biggest concern, if you are not sure why then do a search on here for 'water ingress' it's well covered and a problem that EVERY Superb (and Passat) will suffer with if it has not been rectified beforehand.

Thanks for the advice, it's put me a little at easy however, just dreading the time that light may come on, just hope there is a nice straight road near by at the time!

I have asked the dealer to take a look at the pollen filter before I pick it up tomorrow as it's in the workshop today, just hope they will actually look at it!

Well Mr Greg we can confirm we did look at the pollen filter and it was where it was supooesed to be:D

Did you stipulate about checking the 2 drains and the pollen filter repair?

Yes!

ive had my superb 140 bhp facelift model from new and it has 23,000 on the clock and all i have had is the regenerating happen.....whereby the dpf is being cleaned. this seems to happen around every 3mths on average.....nothing to worry about, just an unusual smell from the exhaust and a smoother drive, and you will notice the revs being around 1000rpm for a few mins and then it drops back to normal.

i should mention, that if it regenerates at night, then you might notice your headlights flickering as if they are loosing their intensity, but that is normal and not a fault with the alternator...ive checked with my dealer and the alternator was working perfect. other than that, ive had no problems with my facelift model, and now my car is approaching the mot, i'll be doing my own servicing with more oil and filter changes than the service book recomends....hope this info helps...kind regards

My DPF regenerates at least once a week! I drive 90 miles a day (45 to work and 45 back), M4 A34, so fast roads, but it still regenerates!

im suprised to hear that your car is regenerating once a week....was wondering how much of the iron filings in the bottle under the spare wheel is actually used in the regeneration purpose?

if it were my car id be worried to the point of wondering if the solutions in the boot would be running low? causing it to regenerate more frequently? or maybe the ecu needs to be re-programmed or another check made to see if the exhaust is in ok condition....by the way sjfisher67,what year is your superb and how many miles has it done? regards andy

I don't know how much of the solution in the boot is used during the regereneration process. I am not overly worried about the car regenerating, it could be something to do with the journey - part of it can't really get over 65mph due to traffic, but the drive home is at steady cruising speed (not keeping it in a too high gear at lower speeds i.e 6th @ 50mph or anything like that), I do make the engine work and know that keeping the revs over 2500 rpm for more than 10 minutes - at least once a week will help the exhaust burn through the soot.

As for the car - it is my second TDi 140 2.0. The last one I did 35k in and no problems at all apart from the Particle filter light showing once one VERY cold morning - for about a second, when starting - then going off!

This one now is an 08 with 11k on it.
