Discs in Gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi

My car has been difficult to get into 2nd and 3rd gear since having a new clutch fitted, they Garage bloke told me it was the rods that would need adjusting before I could get it to him the next day it broke down and made a clunking/grinding noise and ground to a stop.

Although the car will go into gear there was a grinding noise but the car won't go forward, the Garage have now taken it and advised me its the discs that have gone in the gearbox.

Does this sound right as I don't want to be ripped off they have also quoted £575 is this reasonable??

Thanks in anticipation:)

Anything gearbox related is usually bound to be pretty expensive :thumbdwn:

I can't think of anywhere there's anything I'd describe as a disc in the gearbox. The closest I can come are shims used to spacer up the baulk rings.

Do you, or a known previous owner (taxi or minicab drivers tend to be the worst offenders) make a habit of driving in second or third gear with your hand resting on the kn0b?

I had a similar problem on my M3 twice turned out to be the lay shaft bearing, comon on E30 M3's

might be the synco's, could be cheaper to just replace the box.
