Getting the car Friday and already started speccing the new stereo system (been a bit of a thing with me, owned 5 cars in 7 years motoring and i've had the entire system lined up ready to go in before I had the car).

BUT this is the first time i've had the luxury of a Double DIN sized hole in the dash but I cant find a decent cd/mp3 unit which is double DIN anywhere.

Also after much searching for a decent HDD based MP3 player the only way I seem to be able to get something at a reasonable price AND have just ONE display to play with rather than all this dash mount crap is to get the Kenwood Keg thing with the 10Gb hdd in the boot (I'm told this is made by phatnoise or phatsomethingelse and you can get 20gb-80gb disks or put your own in).

I was really looking forward to an in Dash double DIN LCD touch screen, oh well, anyone else got any bright ideas for a slick high end hdd mp3 solution whilst still having all the usual high end HU stuff such as 3x4v preouts?

If I go kenwood i'll get a 9027 or a 9527 HU, a Music Keg and one of thier new 2004 amps which you can control from the Head Unit. THen all I need is a nice stealth shelf, some 6x9's and some nice components in the doors, oh and I have a nice 800w Hifonics Single Channel amp (taken out of my scooby), waiting to drive something square and tasty in the boot.

Someone care to tell me why the car audio industry looks EXACTLY the same as it did 2.5 years ago when I specced i'm Impreza install?

It may look exactly the same but prices have changed a lot. I'd have to sell my children to afford half of the ICE install I want...Do you think 3 screens in a Fabia combi is just a bit excessive.....

I'm sure its the same out there, I was looking at the exact same Alpine HU I sold with my impreza which I bought 2.5 years ago and its still a current model and its still within

I've been looking at that too BUT if you feed it a DVD disc with mp3's on it (ie 4.7Gb worth), can you play them or will it only play movies from dvd.

Also does the screen come off for security or do you leave it in the car :(

Now that looks very tasty and at just under a grand its not too pricey either.

Personally depending on just how much SQ you're after from your setup, i wouldnt bother with the 6x9 speakers and would invest in a better set of upfront components(with the cash from 6x9s) along with a good subwoofer. Just for advice 50% of all frequencies we as humans can hear are bass frequencies, and once you've heard a system with a sub/ than without you'll have a sub setup everytime
