CAN Gateway upgrade

Featured Replies

Hello all!

I own a new Fabia 2 sport TDI 105.

I wanted to replace the Dance HU with a RNS 510. I encounter some trouble, because the RNS need a CAN Bus 2.0 but the Fabia has a 1.6 version.

I tried to install a CAN Bus converter, but it's not very accurate (lot of bugs, slow response but the worse : no speed signal!!)

Because of the lack of speed signal, the navigation doesn't work as the RNS "think" the car is not moving. It's not a satellite reception issue, average of 6 satellites are seen.

So I would like to know if I can change the CAN getaway.

The fabia has a 6n0 909 901 one, I want to replace it with a 1k0 907 530.

Anybody know if it could work? The other ECU will continue to work with this gateway?

If you have any idea, they 'll be welcome!

The gateway (J-533) in a Fabia is incorporated in the electrics ECU (J-519), and is not a separate part like it is on a Octavia II or a Golf V which uses the 1k0 ... ... gateway ECU.

I don't think it is possible to do this..

OK, and I think you cannot find the separate module that is missing into 1k0 gateway... :(

I wanted to make this upgrade because my RNS 510 don't work very well with a CAN Bus converter. It seems the speed signal is "lost" between the gateway and the RNS...

If you have ay idea to solve this issue...

As long as you are getting decent satellite reception then the speed signal is not essential as the car should be able to keep track of its location via gps alone. Indeed the various devices you can get that allow you to view DVD on the move block the speed signal to the headunit.

The RNS "views" the satellite, it's not the problem.

The issue is the RNS "think" my car is not moving. It seems that the RNS is waiting for the speed signal from the gateway to start the navigation. For example, if I enter a destination, the RNS will calculate the trip from my actual position. But when i start the navigation, even if the RNS highlght the road i need to follow, it'll not tell me anything. The worse is that if i don't follow the recommanded road, the RNS will not correct the trip.

Perhaps it's a problem from the RNS 510? I don't know...

I don't know if this will work, but...

Skoda sell a "relay" which converts CAN 1.6 to CAN 2.0 and vice versa

Here is a thread about it with a nice piccy:):

Êîíôåðåíöèÿ www.skoda-club.ru :: Ïðîñìîòð òåìû - Îò÷åò. Óñòàíîâêà CAN àäàïòåðà 1.6->2.0=

It will make some sense if you use this for the Russian/English translation:D

This thread in German may be more relevant (I think he's doing what you are):

Skoda Octavia Forum • Thema anzeigen - DIN-Schacht bei Roomster/Fabia II (Nexus im Roomster)

The "Gateway Control Unit" i.e. the "relay" Part number 5J0 035 751 is used if you have the "Cruise" navi and there is another "Gateway Control Unit" with part number 5J0 035 385 that you use if you have the "Vai Michelin" navi

I am unfamiliar with Skoda navis but I presume one of them is really an RNS510 in disguise.:)

Hope that helps.

Hi All.

I am currently trying to install an oem front and rear ops system and will need to connect it to the can gateway and code.

From the discussion here I understand that the Fabia mkii has the CAN incorporated in the main ECU - can anyone tell me where this ecu is located in the car. If anyone has done this retro-fit (or heard of) do contact me please, as I have not found any info anywhere on the web.
