Movement in Water

Featured Replies

Hi

Been out for long walk in the hills today and at the end got the tripod and camera out to get some piccies of waterfall, trying to convey some movement in the water. About as slow as I could shoot due to lack of any filters at the moment. Would welcome any thoughts?

Hi, not bad at all, you managed to get the milky look with a long exposure.

I would have cropped a bit closer on the waterfall as that is the main point in the picture.

Thanks for the comments. It was really difficult to get close enough as I was trying to retain some foreground interest with the rocks. Have now cropped a bit tighter. Would have been useful to have had zoom lens on at the time to get closer, as there's only so close to the spray you want to go, so now come up against limitations of a 6mp camera

looks awesome mate, nice work :thumb: I really need to invest in an slr when I have some spare £££!

I prefer the one with the foreground interest, without it the image is too 'top heavy' for me.

I like the water, you can still see that it is water... nice exposure time!

Would have been better with a little more saturation or brightness, but I guess that's just personal taste.

Personal taste and limitations of decent light/skill/time. It was pretty cloudy so colours at the time weren't the best, but I'm surprised how dark it all is. Have boosted saturation by about 30% to highlight the green moss on the rocks. This seems to have worked better on the crop than it did on the full photo for some reason, bet I didn't upload the right one. Don't like to do too much PP'ing, so it's about as close as i saw it at the time. Reckon could get away with 1/3 less EV compensation next time, although not sure if that works in manual mode.

Could probably have got away with slightly longer exposure before blowing highlights
