Need some help :-(

Featured Replies

I get an intermittent engine light on my diesel 57 reg Octavia VRS. When I get to the dealership and they hook the car up, there is no fault code. (once I get the light, turn the engine off/on and it always dissapears).

The dealership suggested that I go there with the light flashing, but this just impossible as it happens mostly when I am nowhere near or when the dealership is closed. Driving 30+ miles on "safe mode" is something I dont want to do.

Can I buy an electrical gadget myself, plug it in, and record the error when it happens, to save me all the pain? If so, which one? The car is a 57 reg Octavia VRS diesel.

Many thanks for any reply!

Noone?

Why the vast price differences? I need to read the fault code and nothing more, so, would the cheapest one do that?

thanks!

Have you had a read on the Ross-Tech website for what VCDS can actually do??

Yep, but don't need all that. The info on the cheaper ones is sketchy... Do they involve an unlicenced copy of vagcom or any other bit of software? I don't like pirating other people's work...

Right, the engine light came up again this morning, and as I was on my way to work, bit the bullet and drove to the dealership. The code is: 00665 P0299 006 Turbo/Supercharger Underboost.

I booked it in, but can anyone decipher the error code? From what I read elsewhere in the forum, the turbo pressure sensor maybe missbehaving?

Yes the less expensive product does not include a licensed copy of VAG-COM. You will be using the Shareware version with limited performance. You will be able to read codes but not all codes will be deciphered into human readable statements - they will be just code numbers.

You will also be limited on the tests you can perform, the live data you can read and so on.

You turn this into a full system by purchasing a license for $99.

The Ross-Tech Wiki has more information for you (and part of what we provide for the high prices we charge  ): 16683/P0299/000665 - Ross-Tech Wiki

The car has been booked in today for the 4th time, and as suspected, there is nothing wrong with it apparently.

They can't change any parts unless they are proven to be wrong by diagnostics. The problem is that I can't keep booking it in time after time.

I have rang Skoda customer services and we 'll see where that gets me. I am hoping that they will finally replace the turbo pressure/load sensor.

Will update with any progress.

Thanks to everyone that has tried to help!
