Cruise Control Retrofitting - Reasonable quote?

Featured Replies

Hi.

I've had a ring round my local dealers to enquire about getting cruise control retrofitted to my 52 plate 1.9 TDI Fabia.

One quoted £199, and the other £225. Both all in, with labour, parts and vat.

Do these seem reasonable, and in line with other people's quotes?

Thanks,

Adam

Have a look at fabia-vrs.com - The Comprehensive Fabia vRS Resource Site, it's run by VRStu, he's away at the moment but offers a cruise control retrofit, alternatively depending on your location speak to Ross at unit 18 automotive, one of the site sponsors ;)

Hi Adam

I have tried to get it done on my little Fabia 100PD Comfort 51 plate and I was told that I could not have it on my car?????

Are they sure it can be done?

Hi,

I was told by Doncaster that it cannot be done.

Was told by Bradford that it could not be done.

Was told by York that it'd be £225 fitted.

Was told by Sheffield that it'd be £199 fitted.

Waiting for Chesterfield to get back to me.

Apparently it's possible if it has one or more of the following:

Headlamp Washers

Heated and Electrically Controlled Mirrors

Electrical Sunroof

Heated Seats

Automatic Gearbox.

This post explains more.

£160 fully fitted, and Sarah i'd be very suprised if yours couldn't be done.

The only thing that can stop it is the type of Boardnetz control unit that is fitted.

Part number starting 6Q0 and 6Q1 have two lines of connectors, one at either end of the control unit, this can work cruise control.

Part number starting 6Q2 cannot, this has a line on the left and a line up the middle.

Ahhhhhh

I have the wrong one I was told......

Mmm (rubchin pic)

Oooh Ross , can I remind you of that pin thingy I need.... as trying to get my Mark to do my dump valve....(sorry off topic)

Had mine done by Progress Skoda last month and it was £195 - pretty reasonable since last year they quoted me £400

Its true that some fabias cannot have cruise fitted. The fabias are based on old technology (so the dealer told me), where they don't use the Broadnet system like the Octy. With the Octy its just plug-n-play, but the Fabias are a lot more of a manual install job.

I think if you pay anything around £190 to £220 you've got a good deal. Driving in France this month so cruise was a must for me! :D

Mine's going in Friday to have it fitted - the only thing they said was it may need to be hardwired in (??). Mine's an '05 classic 1.4TDi. From what I've read, all VAG cars after 2000 can have it fitted as the componets are already there. Sounds odd that yours couldn't Sarah, unless it was built with NOS parts?

I had a range of quotes, but got a deal price on service, MOT, brake fluid swap and fitting cruise, so ended up with a very good price. However, the most expensive quote was £180 fitted, so I would say it sounds a little pricey...
