Poor Idle ,Acceleration Favorit Glxie

Featured Replies

Hi There Having a few problems with the idle on My favorit glxie 1995 seems really lumpy Ive replaced the distributor cap leads plugs, rotor arm , coil ,Set The Tappets No Differance the idle goes up , down, Acceleration Appears poor Was wondering if it could be the timing Chain as it seems noisy although its been four years since i last had one of these cars Could the timing chain be knocking the Timing out allowing the Flutter at idle Please Help:)

Yay!!! Another Favorit owner!!!

Could be the chain. What's the mileage on it?

My Uncle had the chain changed on his Corsa.

Had a quick drive in the car yesterday and its nowhere near as smooth or as good to drive as my Favorit.

Need to get the engine fired up though!!!

Mileage is 81000

If the timing chain is well-worn, that could affect the valve timing. Similarly, if the distributor drive or bearings are well-worn, that could affect the ignition timing.

If you can, check the timing with the engine running using a strobe light, and hopefully we can eliminate the ignition timing.

Checked With a timing light , spot on Mmm Is the Timing Chain a Big Job to Replace

Lots on timing chain already posted; use the search, but keep results to this forum.

No, it's not the timing chain. If the chain was that badly stretched it would have broken already! You're looking for something electronic, possibly one of the sensors on the exhaust or on the flywheel. I've never had to fault-find any of those on my own Fav so I'm afraid I can't be more specific.

If its an injected model and the acceleration is REALLY bad- like won't go over 40 and stalls at lights, I'd second the thought that it could be a sensor- similar problems for me was the crank sensor.

Could also be a vacuum leak or throttle body/ carb issue. Remember all of the rubber hoses on your car are getting to 15-20 years old.

Check the inlet manifold gasket, and make sure the cataytic converter isn't blocked.

spot on means it should be 2° BTDC if thats the case you have a over fueling or rich mix problem. or over cooling on the combution, probable causes;

a too cold spark plug, to little spark gap.

blocked pcv system.

thermostat gone gooze

over reatarded ignition timing <-- this one is not since you said its sopt on (2°BTDC without the vacuum advance)

idle mix screw open too much <-- if you have a carbie(i dont know if mono injector model have them too but the opel did)

weak spark (worn out HT cables or damaged Coil)

best of luck, keep posting and let us know if you fix the problem. And by the way, i'm not a mechanic or an expert, just a regular guy how likes fiddling a lot.
