coolant loss, water pump

Featured Replies

bi noticed a drop of water inder car today and looks like it coming from the cam cover area, could this be a leaking water pump?

Thanks

You can get three types of water leaking from your car.

1: Coolant - this will contain G12 additive which is pink.

2: Windscreen washer fluid - this will usually be blue and have a distinct alcohol like smell.

3: Pure water - Colourless, clear and odourless. This drains from the air conditioning system and is perfectly normal, as the air conditioning de-humidifies as well as cooling the air. This vents towards the passenger side of the car.

Which type is it? A leaking water pump will drip under the drivers side of the car, and you will need to top up your coolant if it is leaking.

it is leaking g12 have topped the water up and keeping an eye on it but is def leaking from drivers side

if it is the water pump then get it changed asap, should the bearing fail then the cambelt in turn will stop turning causing major engine damage. Because the water pump is driven by the cambelt, whilst its all in bit you may as well change the belt and tensioners at the same time.

I can't see how water could leak from under the camshaft cover; there are no waterways go out the top of the head!

Water could leak from under the cambelt cover, in which case the most likely location is indeed the waterpump.
