ABS problem

Featured Replies

Having a bit of a problem with my Y plate Fabia. Recently the dashboard lit up indicating that there was a problem with my abs.

Took the car to my regular garage (not a skoda shop) and they hooked it up to their computer and diagnosed a problem with the abs. Knowing that replacing the abs unit is fairly expensive, they sent it off to a specialist who can repair these things. These guys conducted various tests on the unit and it turns out it's actually ok (they ran it on a test rig or something).

However, when the abs unit is on the car, it doesn't work and the dash lights show. My garage have even tried swapping parts out with another fabia of the same vintage - all to no avail. They're now suggesting the only alernative is to visit a skoda or perhaps VW dealer who is likely to have better diagnostic tools. Clearly I'm somewhat concerned that this is going to be costly.

Has anyone out there had a similar problem or can suggest why a seemingly functioning abs unit refuses to work when fitted and what could cause the abs light to come on?

Any suggestions/advice gratefully received!
