Coilpack Wiring

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My octavia VRS has developed the age old coil pack problem. I have had the codes read and sure enough the coils are showing as failed, the problem is all but 1 have had it. After closer inspection the wiring that goes to the coils is damaged (looks melted).

I've been told there is a repair loom for this, but I can't find the part number anywhere, was wondering if someone knew what it was.

Thanks in advance.

anyone?

Had this on my old one caused by the heat of the engine, and just used insulating tape with no problems.

Best I could find you was this from ECS but sadly no part number Notes :: Coil Pack Wiring Harness Replacement

Thanks mate, that is what I have been looking for. Now to source it in the UK.

I thought that, trouble is my wiring is too far gone to be repaired.

Dean.

Could you not fabricate your own replacement section of loom? I drive a diesel, so I am not quite sure what in involved here, but should not be that complicated?

Yes, it is possible to fabricate the loom from scratch. However there are issues with solder joints on top of the engine due to heat and movement. It looks like I've managed to source a new engine bay loom for about a ton.

What I also think you need is a Audi Heat deflecter(shown in the pic covering the coil wiring)

I had same issue and cleaned up the wiring and wrapped heat shrink around the exposed wires and then fitted the heat shield.

Part number is 8L9 121 659. Around £18 quid and 5 min to fit.

I have the p/n for the replacement loom somewhere and will dig it out.

Not familiar with the loom layout, but could the joints just not be made futher away from the engine to avoid the heat issues. I would rather had a stab at fixing it myself than shelling out £100 for a new section of loom.

Not sure what is being referred to as the joints, the issue normally is due to the amount of heat generated from the turbo across the top of the rocker cover either cracking or melting the insulation on the wiring. There are no joints around the top of the cover, the wiring goes straight into the coil plug connector. The connectors that allow unplugging from the main loom are down by the side of the engine away from the heat. Providing the wiring is still intact then a loom replacement may be a extreme cost.

If the coil replacement has fixed the running problem the loom may be saved.

I've managed to source a repair loom now so all is good. I understand what your saying, I was only passing on what skoda told me to do. The answer they gave me was to buy the 12 inch long cables with the pins attached and then solder them in. This would have meant the joins being on top of the engine.

Once the repair loom has arrived and been fitted, then I will know if the coils themselves need replacing as well. I suspect the coils are actually ok, but won't know until the wiring is sorted.

The repair loom I've ordered comes with one, as it has been revised to prevent the issue happening again. Shows they are aware of the problem though if Audis have a heat shield.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Is this a Skoda P/N as I would be interested in this

Its an Audi part number mate. Skoda doesn't list it, but it will fit of course.
