Lumber support broken on VRS drivers seat.

Featured Replies

Morning!

The lower back support has broken on my drivers seat, the knob just spins with very little resistance and no effect to the seat. And man it's uncomfortable  I only have a 30 min drive to work and it gave me back pain already.

Can this be fixed or do I need to start looking for a replacement seat?

Thanks

There was a thread on here recently i think about the lumbar support.

Seems like a common fault. Has anyone taken any pics of there repair?

Cheers

Chris

Someone did have a how to thread, there was two of them IIRC. I dine mine a few months back but didnt take any pics. Mine was just the wire frayed so it was a fairly easy fix. If its the plastic Lumbar its self then that will be more tricky to replace. I paid around £26 for the repair kit.

Ok, so I took my seat apart and I can see what has broken. As expected the retaining nipple at the end of the cable has broken off. I got a brake cable the correct length and have the knob off the side of the seat.

New problem, how do I remove the remaining cable from inside the knob without destroying the plastic?

Thanks

Chris

I got away without having to do that, I bought a pack of shackles from B&Q and used them to join the broken cable and the bike brake cable I bought.

Ahh i dont think you can, The repair kit has a new plastic bit that the dial fits into so i cut the old one with a Dremmel. Good luck but I opted for the easy root so I can't really he;p much more...

Sorry to drag this old thread back up, I had a go at completing the repair on my seat yesterday.

I have a new cable and dial plastic thing and seems to be fitted ok.

I am confused about the cable sleeve. I have it pushed up to the support mechanism at one end but what do I do with the dial end of the sleeve?

I think it must hook up to something for it to work otherwise when I turn the dial its just going to move the cable around a little. :rotz:

Sorry if this doesnt make allot of sense, I took a few pics and will upload later as this should explain things a bit better.

Thanks

From memory, I think if it is in the guide in the seat back then it just pushes up against the back fo the dial, but I might be wrong.

Hello

This is how I assembled the lever, with the sleeve pushed up into the groove.

And this is the other end, the cable on the left going in the back of the knob. Of course the wire just moves when operated, I think perhaps the sleeve should connect at both ends but dont know where?? :o

The sleeve stops where it meets the long plastic thing which is attached to the bottom of the lumbar support frame. the cable then carries on up to the top of the frame. So even when you turn the support all the way down it is still under tension and holds a slightly curved shape. The cable then sits in a slot in the top of the frame, did you find the little lump of metal of the end of the wire. I found this floating around in the bottom of the back of the seat and used it as a templat to fashion the gear cable I bought to the right shape. IIRC the wire runs another 6 inches up inside the seat. In the picture in the 5th post above the cable slots in on the top (right hand side of the frame) the long plastic thing is not shown in the picture as it is on the back as the frame is lying.
