Wheel change

Featured Replies

Hi again,

This weekend I decided to swap the wheels round (back wheels to front etc).

I removed the bolts ok, but couldn't remove the damn alloy wheels, so gave up.

Anyone know of a way to remove the wheels easily without damaging the alloys?

I doubt they have been ever removed before.

Yeah, they need to be copper-slipped really before they're fitted - something the supplying dealer should have done, really... :thumbdwn:

I got mine off with a rubber mallett. A little bit of outlay, but it beats damaging the wheels. Just give is a few taps from the back of the wheel, and it should break the seal.

Kick the tyre top and bottom (alternating). Should do the trick. Using your heel is less painful than your toes!

Hi,

Had another go at swopping the wheels round this last weekend.

The back wheels needed a good few minutes hammering (with a rubber hammer) before they came off.

The front wheels fell off after one or two hits... the rims seem smaller in depth.

Thanks for the advice.

Just kick the tyre hard :D

It is a worthwhile exercise rotating them as in 7000 miles my fronts had shed 1mm nore than the rears.

This is changing them at 26000 miles.

The rear tyres look new 6mm. The front were on 3mm.
