Clutch beginning to die?

Featured Replies

I think my clutch may be showing signs of going, but not 100% sure.

Getting a judder when pulling away like I'm not giving it enough revs and feels like it may stall, but no change from normal revs to pull away.

Also noticed in 2nd, 3rd gear when revving hard it will hesitate around 5500-6500rpm.

I am suspecting that it is age (approx 66k) and the recent addition of a remap may be the final nail in the coffin (before getting flamed, I'm not suggesting the remap is to blame, but would be a pretty big nail in the coffin. What with around 30% increase in torque:rofl:)

I had a bit of judder when first pulling away, and then when it got a bit worse what you should notice is an increase in rpm but no increase in road speed, and then gradually the clutch will stop slipping the road speed will increase.. Stick the car in 2nd gear and boot it and see what happens.

2nd gear booting seems fine, no revs rising at all yet. Turned of the ASR and wheels will spin up slightly but no mad revving.

Mine does it in higher gears, try booting it in 4th or 5th up a hill :).

I can remember mine first obviously slipped on a motorway slip road, so I am guessing I was probably in 3rd (or maybe 4th) on my way to Liverpool from Dorset.

If its juddering it could also be the signs of a tired dual mass flywheel.

Well took it out last night to test, and it seems fine in gear and when pulling away. 5th gear up the steepest hill I could find from low revs, around 2000 rpm and it pulled fine.

When it occured last I had been using the car for around 4 hours with some quite hard driving. I'm not sure about the high rev hesitation I had as it felt almost like ASR kicking in or the turbo and revs being held back. Possibly a coil pack as the ASR was not even on?

Doesn't sound like the clutch to me. Mine slips in 3rd, 4th and 5th at about the 3500 rpm mark foot down for a second or two then recovers: revs go up, speed lags behind then catches up.
