Vrs comparison

Featured Replies

I was wandering how a remapped new CR Diesel VRS Octy would stack up against a stock Petrol FSI VRS?

Having had a browse through the threads concerning the fettling of the 170 bhp lump, it would be handy to know.

Would I be disappointed changing from an FSI VRS? The BHP figs seem to bring them into line on power. But what about the driving experience??

I used to have a TFSI vRS and it is a little quicker than the CR TDi through the gears, but in gear at motorway speeds there is nothing in it. For me, that's where it counts as that's where I do most of my driving.

A remapped CR TDi would be quite a bit quicker in gear at motorway speeds than a standard TFSI and similar through the gears I reckon however it would be a different story against a remapped TFSI.

the only thing that would sway the diesel for me would be if i did very high mialage. If you dont it'll take you about a year or so for the fuel savings to cover the extra cost of the buying the diesel over the petrol

I don't do particularly high mileage but just fancied something different this time round.

Personally I prefer the TFSi to the CR TDi but you need to drive both to see which you prefer.

I went from a TFSI to a TDI (PD) and to be frank have found the TDI to be a bit of a let down.

I'm getting used to it now, and yes it goes quite well but found the TFSI to be as flexible 'in gear' as the TDI is as the torque is delivered low down in a very TDI like fashion.

To sum up I'd say the only benefits of the TDI are better fuel economy and lower Road Tax, I'd also gladly swap my TDI for a similar age/spec TFSI :D

I'd agree with most of that but I wouldn't swap mine yet. The lower tax is a bonus as is the better economy.

I drove both extensively before deciding on the TFSI - for me it was fairly clear cut. The TFSI has ample torque over a broad rev range (1800 - 5500 rpm) and is a smoother and lighter engine. It handles a bit better on the curves than the diesel thanks to the lower weight.

For long distance economy cruising the diesel wins - for everything else it has to be the TFSI. Moreover a £500 remap from Revo will turn the TFSI into a seriously rapid car.

It might be smoother than the older PD unit but the CR is super smooth.

I can't say I'd noticed a difference in handling. Perhaps the CR is a lighter unit than the PD? I think you would have to be driving like a hooligan to notice the difference to be honest.

In what way do you find it a let down compared to the TFSI? What do you not like about the PD?
