Using pressure washer after waxing?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if the idea of waxing is so "in theory" muck will just pressure washer off easily? Also, in terms of washing the car in the future, is pressure washing likely to damage the wax? What other general washing faux-pas could I make that could damage the wax layer? :)

T.I.A

Propper car wash, lambs wool wash mit and two buckets.

Or one bucket, old bar towel, as I prefer to call it. :D Just thought pressure washer to start might be a good idea.

At this rate I can see me having to go to B&Q for another bucket, and Halfords next door for the mitt.

i use a snow foam thing on my karcher to spray on the soap suds, then once all on go round spraying it all off, this gets most of the dirt off. Then go round 2 bucket method and find there is then very little dirt on the car. Also find that the first wash after the last waxing makes the wax look better as any slight smearing that appears from the heat is removed and then when dry looks even better.

Snow foam lance Jason..Its the only proper way. Once the car is sealed and waxed, you wont need to touch the car with a sponge/MF Mitt.

I "think" my el-cheapo pressure washer does have a snow foam type attachment. Definitely something there with a little reservoir under it to hold suds or something. I just have nothing to put in it. :o

If the car is sealed and waxed correctly then you just need to rinse off, wash with the 2BM, rinse off and dry again..............:D

I have never used my HD Snow Foam Lance on the paintwork once it's been sealed and wax, no need for it.............;)

:eek:You will find that a snow foam lance and proper snow foam or Bilt Hamber snow foam removes far more dirt and grit than you realise. Using a pressure washer only will result in dirt still being there. You then dry the car with a MF towel and scratch/swirl it

I would probably pressure off the worst of it and follow up with a normal wash. I thought perhaps though I could get away with just a pressure washing when the weather wasn't up to much and drying wasn't needed.

Think you may have read incorrectly my response......

I have all the proper snow foam mate but for me it's not needed, if you have enough protection on the car then rinsing and washing with the 2BM and drying properly will not add swirls or scratches into the paintwork.........

If only that were the case Jason, you will need to do a little more work that that...........

I did misead. Yes. BUT

Just using the 2BM when you have a Snow Foam lance, providing the car is not too dirty, is a waste of effort.

If you have the right level of protection, using a bucket and mitt will not be needed at all.

I havent used a bucket since the snows of February!

BTW I use BHAB, Collinite 915 and DJ RMQP

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree then mate, washing the car properly can never be a waste of effort IMHO......

Why use a bucket and mitt when you dont have to touch the car to clean it with a Snow Foam lance?

I'm not saying that one shouldnt use the 2BM...just that many times, when the car is not that dirty, Ive found I dont need to...and I DO wash cars properly thanks

Thats the method I use...spend a full day clay and wax with some decent long lasting wax...collinite for eg..then for the next 4/5 months pressure wash or handwash...both bring it up very well...obviously the hand wash and towel dry bring it up like a new pin.....the pressure washer brings it up very clean but tends to be a bit straky.

Just in case there is any confusion.

I Snow Foam the car..leave 5 to 10 minutes and then pressure wash off before deciding wether or not to use a 2bucket method.

I am very very suprised that anyone would pressure wash and use a bucket before applying foam..It defeats the object of safely removing dirt and grit before touching the car.

What wash method do you use?

For me and this is my opinion even with a lot of wax and sealant on the car the Snow Foam will not remove all your dirt and grime so I prefer to use a 2BM after having rinsed the car, I have found that in order to get effect out of using Snow Foam it needs to be a strong mix which effects your protection so I choose not to use it.

My car get's pretty dusty as I am now living on a farm and also pretty dirty with the farm machinery rolling over dirt tracks so for me the 2BM is a must but it's each to their own and we are all different, otherwise the world would be a boring place indeed.

I don't claim to know everything there is to know about detailing, I am always learning and trying new techniques to apologies if I have offended you and your process.........:(

You havent offended me at all, i'm just puzzled.

I know youre a master detailer (Detailing World) but concensus of opinion is that snow foam will lift dirt from the surface prior to just plain pressure washing.

This is not just my opinion but the manufacturers of the snow foam themselves.

Bilt-Hamber Laboratories - Degreasing - Cleaning - Auto-foam

However, if its works for you,.....Good luck mate

No chance mate, still loads to learn and I am a long way off the Pro's and I just do what I can within the time frame allocated..........

I have seen and read many reviews and I guess I am just going to be the one that does things a little differently, rightly or wrongly based on my own experiences with my own car

Snow foam is good but i tend to find that the car doesnt really come clean unless i give it the two bucket method after.

I tend to pressure wash the car first, then snow foam and if necessary two bucket wash. followed by a pre-wax then wax.

MAybe im not putting enough wax on if the snow foam is not enough, or perhaps i should wash it more often.
