What to do regarding service

Featured Replies

my vRS is currently on 58k, however the 50k service was only done in November 08, and the mileage then was 55749 (some of the services have been done a little late and its added up), my service book states my next service is due at 65,749 miles, or 26th Nov 09

ive got a warranty on my car which states i need to have it serviced within 6 months of purchase, which would be early June IIRC, so im going to get it booked in somewhere in May

however, do i just get a lube service done, as thats all thats due ?.....or do i get the 60k service done which costs twice as much, the pollen filter and air filter have already been replaced by me using genuine parts as i felt they were due, id like to get it back on track with the servicing however i wont be doing as many miles as the previous owner, so my future services are no doubt going to be 'due by date' rather than mileage

ive had the timing belt/water pump/aux belt/tensioners replaced already, they were done early Jan IIRC

also, i feel that Awesome may do a more thorough job of the service than the main dealer ?.....the technicians where i work (Renault) tell me that VAG services are generally not very thorough, in fact the Renault service is far more thorough, they have shown me Autodata service guidelines which backs this up, however, the dealer wants £30 less for the service than Awesome do, and another genuine stamp in the book would be nice

if you know the parts have been done recently, then cant be much gain in having them done again. As far a where to go, I imagine dealer service will just run by their book but if you take it somewhere else (Awesome) then they would be much more flexible I would imagine.

Will the dealer stamp make that much difference? If you are planning on selling in the near future then perhaps, but if your not planning on selling to soon then after a few years a dealer service history wont really add much to value of sale.

not planning on selling for a few years at least

maintain it for your needs then :)

Renault services better than VAG - aye right! just ask any Renault owner about Renault products and services and you might just find a different answer! Oldest daughter's BF has gone back to Renault from Honda and rediscovered just how crap Reggie's Clio Sport cars really are - and the dealers just have not got a clue when it comes to fixing them - but froggy rubbish is cheaper to keep on the road than Hondas! If you are keeping it, why not use VAG indies - job done!!

i never said Renaults are better than VAG cars, just that the service guidelines require more bits to be checked, maybe for a reason lol

and what problems have been experienced, quite a few common problems with very well known fixes, though at our place we do have some very experienced techs, and 2 RTE's (Renault Technical Expert)

Independant thinking has lead you to make a better choice when you bought your car - just spare a thought for all these people that bought a Megane CC only to be told that uneven rear tyre wear is not a fault really, more a design feature! There is no allowance to correct rear axle alignment problems on these cars full stop!!

swmbo's 182 will be in safe hands then :D

Will you be due the 65K service in november? if so do a lube in may then full service in Novemeber. Saying that you could do a full service in may and then the next will be due at 68-70K.

So far my cars done over 70K (had from new) and so far not had any issues that havn't been spotted by the service.

i think ill just get a lube service done, another oil change certainly cant do any harm and im going to do interim changes anyway

anymore opinions on what i should do ?

im now thinking, get the 60k done, cos if i get a lube service done now, its gonna need the 60k service done in November anyway, so ill have spent more over the year
