DSG question

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the DSG in my 58 plate VRS 2.0 CR would have a 'learning' ecu and if so can it be cleared to re learn, it's started changing down too bloody early and too much for my liking!

Pull the negative terminal off the battery for 15 minutes to reset the box ecu and then re-apply - over the next 100 miles the box will adapt to your driving style.

Will the radio code be ok and is this a definate answer?

Thanks

Badbaz - if you have a DPF it may be going through a regeneration cycle. The early change downs shouldn't last more than a few miles.

If not I suggest you have a dealer reset.

I had major work on a DSG box - it didn't do anything different with changes afterwards, despite being told the ECU needed to relearn my style.

What went wrong with the box:confused::confused:

Right guys, come on, I need an answer please!

I've not pulled the neg off the battery as I'm not sure of the consequences and if it will indeed work. Can anyone say for sure?

It's getting worse, changing down really early on the overrun, so much so that I'm driving in manual mode most of time now. It's changing up too soon too, like 1, 2, 3, 30 mph, 4, 5, 6, 33mph, oh come on I need more acceleration, foot down a bit, 6, 5, 4 off like a rocket, too much throttle, lift a bit, 4, 5, 6 for pete's sake only wanted 5th for a bit. Not happy with it just now. It's up and down the gears more than a lady of the night's underwear!

HELP!?!

New mechatronic unit was required due to jerkiness on take off.

if tis s tream radio then the battery reset will do it no harm as its coded to the car. Not a clue on the DSG though as I dont own one.

have you thought about taking it to the dealers as it sounds knackered?

The DSG does learn yes. Mine has definitely altered slightly over time.

the radio will be fine

it only asks for the code on the initial connection of the car, once the radio is paired with that car it will no longer ask for a code

Whilst I have no experience of a DSG g'box; this does not sound healthy; a pure guess is that there is a sensor somewhere 'out to lunch'.

I'd book a dealer visit in and ask that you take a mechanic out on a road test with you to 'illustrate the problem'; its under warranty after all!

This does not sound like a 'learning' issue at all, its something more major. You need to get it to a dealer. The DSG box is of nightmare-ish complexity, a 'poke and hope' approach is doomed to fail.

I'm not so sure it's a problem, I live in a hilly area, I drive fast, it just seems to be too happy to shift cogs, like it's always in an economy mode, not making the best of the torque available.

As said above though, take offs are a bit iffy, it's like it has a double stab at engaging drive, like you would do on a manual if you wanted to light up the tyres!

I'll call my local dealer and seek advice, see what they propose.

Update to follow.

This box sounds great when it works but I don't think I would have one without an extended warranty. The thing that alarms me is the hesitation at junctions and roundabouts and then a lurch. Is this reported trait common:confused::confused:

Mines fine. There's no more delay than any auto IME, and most of the time it is very smooth.

in general DSGs tend to be a bit jerky....especially when driven a bit agressive...drive for a few miles smoothly and the box will adapt resulting into smoother drive.

sadly, many dealers have no clue about DSG. Due to the complexity of the unit and their ignorance they just change the mechatronic unit (without even being faulty).

Pulling the negative terminal off the battery for 15 minutes to reset the box ecu works fine with no consequences whatsover.
