Standard stereo sounds rubbish

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone tell me of a good upgrade as the stereo system in my oct vrs sounds terrible compared to my old vectra GSI. Is it just the head that needs upgrading or the speakers too? I dont want to spend alot but was wondering what I could do with a few hundred pounds?

Unfortunately mate it's the whole lot. Bag o' ****e. Bin it. :D

Hell no! It does sound crap and some thing has to be done as I really enjoy my music! what would you chage 1st head or speaker as I haven't the cash to do both and the jabba tune will be on hold now untill next year!!

The "source" is always the best place to start, and if you havnt got a good source then it doesnt really matter what speakers you have got wired up (well to a certain extent). So get yourself a decent head unit !!!!! Then at a later date upgrade the speakers. And if you really like good quality sounds in your car get yourself an amp and sub after all that :D:

In Car Audio is one thing Vauxhall seem to be good at.

The Speakers in my Astra were excellent when combined with a decent HU.

As Rich said above, 400 notes or so will see a real difference. After that, it's a case of how far you want to go. :)

I changed speakers first than HU...I'd defintely recommend doing it the other way round, and disconnecting the rear tweeters... :D

For an improvement, you could buy all the entry level gear (eg.

Before we send you for your chequebook.... do a search for:

1)disconnecting the rear tweeters

2)opening up the membrane behind the front speakers

3)if you have a wagon, removing the felt over the rear speakers.

These may help in the short term....

To be honest, change the HU first, I am not what might be called an Audiophile, I have always kept with standard radios in cars etc etc, BUT I have just change the HU on my Octy, and even to my tuneless crappy ears, I can tell a HUGE difference in sound quality...does this mean im on the slope now....am I gonna be changing my speakers next ?? am I gonna be adding amps ??? .....

Nah...I'll stick with it as it is for now I think

Im gonna be a sheep and say head unit :D. Reason being is OEM units are bought for peanuts and sold for buckets full.

IIRC the HU's in Opel\Vauxhalls are all kenwood units, and i had a loaner corsa (ewwwww) and the stereo was amazing in it. Ford's have above decent speakers for one too. Its a shame the manufacturers cant do additional deals with car audio suppliers to fit after market units when you get the car.

Does any body know how I go about using my standard 6 disc changer and using a after market H.D? Or do I have to upgrade that too?

Ther stereo in my Vectra was a Blaupunkt! as standard!

Think you'll struggle getting the standard changer to work with an aftermarket HU...the other way round would be easier, but not much good for a head unit upgrade... :D

Rob.

If your not wanting to spend the earth then a speaker upgrade is well worth it.

I changed the Front and Rear speakers for some Sony Custom fits.

1727's front and 1327's at the rear, both are direct replacements.

They are around
