Clutch travel adjustment

Featured Replies

Before I bugger my motor up just after I've bought it....... Can anyone confirm if the clutch cable on a 98 1.3mpi Felly is adjustable ?

The clutch is ok, just want to lessen the pedal travel before it engages/disengages .

Yes. Theres a nut on the end where it's on the gearbox

Yeah thought as much looking at it. Wanted to make sure it wasn't an auto adjuster before I start fiddling. Don't have my haynes manual yet :)

Cabels are auite easy to fit, maybe a bit fiddly to clip onto the pedal!!!!

Most important thing is to ensure the cable is routed correctly to ensure it's not damaged by heat from the exhaust manifold.

The Favorit one is impossible to keep away from the exhaust manifold. Have purchased myself a Felicia 1.3mpi cable on recommendation of skudman on skoda-forum.com as apparently they're slightly shorter and better specced (coated with PTFE or something so slide easier). Not convinced by the tin foil heat shield it has though.

Hopefully I won't be taking the cable off.... just re-adjusting the end where the cable joins the clutch arm.

There is a pre tension spring, that keeps the pedal at the correct level. If it is broken, the pedal will be a lot higher than the brake pedal. Ive had a couple break over the years

It's just bite point adjustment I'm after. The pedel sits at the correct level.

Now after greasing up the bits on the cable to stop the pedal being so stiff and adjusting the nut the pedal is now a lot lighter and doesn't squeel but the bite is right at the top of the pedal where as it was at about the middle point of travel on the pedal before. The pedal was, however, sat a bit lower than the brake pedal and is now level with it (as the Haynes states is should be).

Is there any way to adjust where the bite point is on the pedal while maintaning the correct position of it (i.e. level with the brake pedal)?

Thanks

Phil

I guess you need to loosen the adjusting nut so it doesn't pull the clutch release as much. I presume this would send the pedal down though? The brake pedal is adjustable at the back of the servo but has specific height it should be at.
