Jamex coilovers

Featured Replies

Has anyone any experience with these coilovers? fully adjustable and are apparently Vrs specific although a quick search reveals they fit the TT too but not the Golf.

Skoda Octavia RS Coilover springs shock 150117 on eBay, also Suspension Components, Performance Tuning Parts, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 04-May-09 14:13:25 BST)

Its looking like either these or some H&R springs on standard shocks, all the other coilovers are out of my price range.

i spoke with someone recently and they said jamex are now made in china and are of poor quality,i have just bought some koni sport dampers and im waiting on some vogtland springs from c+r enterprises, they were recomended by steve,he has a set on his octy vrs estate, they aren,t vrs specific springs but they quote them to fit a vrs and they only lower 15mm which suits me fine, with speed bumps.

Imo i'd stay away from Jamex suspension, always thought they were cheap and nasty mate.

Can you not get a pre set damper's and spring's from someone like Koni etc?

dewaryboy- Lots of threads about springs for the vrs, are you sure these vogtland springs will be ok, as the poundage will be wrong if not vrs specific.

hi gmaster, spoke with steve at c+r enterprises at length about suspension in general for the vrs,and he said the vogtland springs are specified for the vrs as well as some others, but would only lower the vrs 15mm as opposed to say 35mm on a tdi,he has them fitted on his octy vrs,he fitted them with new standard shocks as he got fed up looking for uprated shocks,he got konis but they didn,t have the bracket for the anti-roll bar link,im glad to say the shocks koni have supplied me,do have the bracket, cant wait to get the springs,so i can get them all fitted.90k has taken there toll on the original shocks.

Hello Martin,

I bought some JAMEX coilovers from a supposed 'reputable' tuner. Got to say they were absolutely C#@P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sooooo hard they ended up causing the top mounts to break :eek::eek:

I wouldn't touch them again with a barge pole - that bad. I am not even sure that JAMEX make a specific coilover kit for the vRS - could be for a Golf / Passat yet some tuners are still willing to pass off as being suitable for the Octy vRS.

General opinion on here is that if you are wanting coilovers go for Weitec or KW. More expensive but at least will do a proper. If you decide they are too much then don't whatever you do go for KONI FSD and EIBACH springs. :rotz::rotz::rotz:

Just do a search and you shall see why.

Cheers,

Darren

I'm sorry but i wouldn't trust anybody who said the above.

The springs sounds like a generic set designed for the octavia not for the VRS.

To state they lower the diesel by 35mm and vrs15mm sounds like crap and for someone to order the wrong shocks as they didn't have the bracket.,yeh right!

Did you buy them for a Vrs?

They are specific to the Vrs and Audi TT but the Golf does have a different part number so are not compatible. Don't worry i won't buy Eibach springs ;), H&R springs are at the top of my list if coilovers are too much.

Hi Martin, don't go nowhere near those Jamex coilovers. How they are listed for VRS and TT are beyond me as they do not have anti roll bar link brackets on them. The style of that coilover would then allow hardly any adjustment if clamp on brackets were added( I asked Race Dynamics before about these are they will charge 50 quid extra a link bracket or something like this).

One owner on this site fitted them before and they were terrible.

You would be better off just getting H&R or Weitec springs.

JAYMD. Actually coilovers if fitted to the TDI or none VRS typically will lower the car 20mm more than if the same shocks were fitted to a VRS as those motors sit 20mm higher roughly. This if definately true of AP coilovers fitted to a members VRS on this site.

Ha i asked them about the arb brackets they said "yes they do, VRs specific". I guess they are Bullsh*ting!

Yep that is what they said to me. But how can they list these for a VRS if bracket's are not supplied as standard. This implies they are generic ones and a after thought is to add a bracket option. If you notice the lower spring platforms, where is the bracket going to sit. It will more or less completely make the adjustment of the lower platform redundant, as the bracket clamps around the shock..

Ok H&R springs ordered.

As i say i'm not too clued up on suspension so do i need new top mounts or anything else when i fit the springs? Nothing creaks or anything just wondering.

Hello Martin,

Yes, I bought the Jamex coilovers for my vRS. The tuner responsible said yes, they will fit, your vRS is same as Mark IV Golf / Passat. The car did sit low, but as in previous post, so bloody hard top mounts broke. Also dampers very badly corroded so unable to adjust height. Stay well clear of. Give em the :finger::mad:

Beware - too many tuners out there ready to simply take your money with products not right for the vRS. :rotz: :rotz: :rotz:

Listen to others on the forums before parting with your cash.

Cheers,

Darren

Hi Martin , not essential to get top mounts, but depends on the mileage of your motor really. The standard top mounts go soft over time and allow the strut to knock. As GSF do them very cheaply it is a good option to replace them and the top mount bearings.

I would also recomend you get the VW tool that you insert into the back of the suspension strut hub which you attach a socket wrench to, to twist it. It has a oval bit in the end that when twisted opens up the hub to allow easy removal of the strut.

at 10 quid it is worth it.

Part number 3424 i think.

Nice pic of it here.

VWvortex Forums: Suspension DIY'ers - Tools

Also some pics of suspension removal for you.

Seat Ibiza Mk4 Front Shock Absorber Replacement

plus this lot of info i posted some time back may help you should you wish to replace any parts. Again as stated not essential but I think it makes life easier to be prepared.

I replaced every part.

Front Suspension bolts and nuts

Outer nut, self-locking 21mm x2 part# N90 353 603 (top of suspension strut)

Lower strut mounting bolt 18mm x2 part# N10 207 803

Lower strut mounting nut 18mm x2 part# N10 106 402

Hub Strut Spreader X1 3424

Rear Suspension bolts and nuts

Upper shock mounting bolt 16mm X4 part# N90 648 401

Lower shock bolt 16mm x2 part# N90 517 304

Lower shock nut 16mm x2 part# N10 286 110

All that came to £30.

Then this lot came from GSF

Front Suspension

Part Quant. Part No.

Strut Top Bearing x2 1J0-412-249 (GSF P/N 45737A)

Strut Top Mount x2 1J0-412-331C (GSF P/N 45736)

Came to around £20

Also I went for doing the ARB links as one of mine was bad. Again purchased from GSF

RH Anti Roll Bar Link 42274N (IJ0-411-316D)

LH Anti Roll Bar Link 42274M (IJ0-411-316D)

These were £38 for the pair

Thanks Mark thats very helpful

I have had the strut off the hub before when i did the wheel bearings so i think I'm half way there.

Darren, there are three different Jamex Coilovers available for the Mk1 Octavia (standard one that fits all inc Golf except vrs, 4x4 and Vrs) all have a stainless steel body so should not corrode. Maybe yours was one of the first available and was originally designed for the Golf but they decided it would fit all Octavia's too?

This one is specific to the Vrs and Audi TT. I Emailed someone who bought one of the Jamex coilovers from Ebay and asked him about them his reply was " they are not the best but do a good job for the price."

This and the fact there was not enough positive comments, but no negative comments from other forums put me off in the end.

I went with the tried and tested H&R springs.

Thanks Mark thats very helpful

Well Martin you have it sorted then as stripping the hub down is worse than changing the struts in my opinon.

H&R good choice.....

jamex is a budget coilover the ride is harsh and crashy .. if u on a budget and wants to go low then is ideal ....
