Featured Replies

I tried out a Fabia 1.4 16v today  , and the clutch felt like it was really high up. can this be altered at all does anybody know?? pleeese helpme cos I know nowt about cars!!

ps its about 18months old with ~10k on the clock.

WHO'S swmbo?

Clutch is fairly high up I guesws - which helps when one slightly misjudges the speed of change. ;) Sometimes I think I do the change and clutch at the same time. :D

Clue would be...... has the same first name as me and is the briskoda god :D

That narrows it down, quite a lot actually. :D I guess you used mod powers to establish that, eh? ;)

The one (and only) time my dad has driven my Fabia (it was an 8v 1.4 a few years ago) he found the clutch was very high up and kept giving it too many revs.

I don't know if it can be changed but if there is any slack in the clutch cable I would suspectadjusting it might help, but I know more about computers than mechanicals.

Welcome, SWMBO. :o Doesn't HE know?

Fabias have hydralic clutches as I have just found out...

unfortunately, HE doesn't know :slap: we asked a garage man, he said not able to adjust - so am trying to suss whether he was talking pants or not. Wondering whether it is going to need changing soon or whether its just a quirk of fabia clutches.....its just a chunk of metal to me :D any mechanically minded peeps out there ???

hydraulic is it? does this mean it can't be adjusted then?

actually... no. the briskoda widow thing and the profile stuff gave it away

C'mon, resident experts! SWMBO deserves quicker service than she is currently getting.

Interests:

Anything other than Skoda's

 Thanks for pointer Col. Didn't think of that.

So there is actually no adjustment atall on the clutch?

The pedal is right at the top IMHO of it's travel. It's high enough that you can't really do the moving in traffic thing wihout lifting your leg, instead of using your ankle.

The gears are also notchy to engage, very compared to the Octy, 1st is a bit of a "urgh get in there "feeling...

So anybody got any ideas on this clutch adjustment?

We were told it was normal...well it's not, as other fabias we have driven were nothing like it.

Thanks for the detective work though ;) I might get permission to work on the site again at some point this decade now, lest we can redeeem ourselves :D

Don't have a copy of etka, but IIFC it's only parts, not a "manual" or am I wrong?

Some adjustment must be possible?

Col...clutch pedal on my Octy is pretty high too. Defintely compared with ffelan's, and his initial response on driving mine was to ask if the clutch was on it's way out or something.

However, it's been like that for the last 40k miles, so I'm not convinced...

No idea on adjustment though...

Rob.

Well Rob my first thought was cable has slipped / clutch is nigh on dead, but at 11k it should not be, unless Paul has a brother clutch abuser.

If it is then I'd be after another or actually SWMBO would be, or a different car.

However it does not slip, pulled in 4th from 2k rpm no slip really visible.

It's uncomfortably high I'd say though Rob. You really feel like your about to kanagroo into the car infront, which if had not been an S3 on a mission I'd of been panicing.

There has to be someway of realling the pedal back/extending the bite, it bite really quickly, which copuled to the high position, makes it really awkward...hard to describe, but not comfortable is a good start.

Then again if anybody knows of a 1.4 16v 74KW version(100BHP) March 03+

ETKA (and ETOS) are official parts lists with no service/repair information.

I was thinking more to the point of least you would have a diagram and see if theres a way to adjust.... wheres K when ya need him eh! :D

Then again if anybody knows of a 1.4 16v 74KW version(100BHP) March 03+ < 15k miles, cd pref for <

SWMBO Hello and most welcome,

The only way to squire excellent clutch action, feel and height is to forget about the Fabia and purchase a Yeti preferably the Yeti 170 CR Elegance which is best. I am sure that "He" knows what is what really, :giggle:

Seriously, normally clutch peddles are not adjustable today, occasionally after a clutch change the peddle hight might be different than before. If the peddle hight is uncomfortable then possibly and I am not sure that itis good practice, a mechanic or welder could cut the offending item and reattach it in a better position. Of course this would need to be doe properly because the full action of the clutch must not to be compromised. the other thing is some rally after market outlets such as Demon Tweeks sell all sorts of fancy bolt on peddles for all the controls. This way is not going to be very cheap or perhaps strait forward but I guess that some one who knows a bit about rally cars might be able to help :giggle: I am being serious. Normally with clutch peddles one just gets on with what one has.
