Damage to new car:-(

Featured Replies

Took the daughter back to uni, and look what some numty did in Asda car park:eek:. They reversed out a parking bay just as I was passing them but they didn`t stop and pushed me across two lanes. I have only had the car 8 weeks, what the problem is when you open the rear passenger door the sill is all rippled and buckled and also the curved metal of the wheel arch. Does anyone know how much this will cost to repair? And what formula does the insurance company use for determining a write off.

OMG

That's pretty substantial damage

Can't help with your questions Im afraid, but just wanted to say I'm gutted for you :(

Hope you get it sorted, and quick.

Damian

Jesus how fast was the numpty going

iirc a write off is when the repairs cost more than 40-60% (depending on company) of the value of the car.

I would say from the pics it will be around £1500-£2k to repair but if there is any chassis damage then its a write off straight away i think

Hope it gets sorted and gutted for you mate

Carl

:( Really sorry to see that. When does the insurance assessor see it?

my sister had something similar happen, except the numpty had a fiesta with a tow bar. It looked pretty bad but hadn't actually damaged anything structural. She ended up with the two doorskins being replaced and everything else being straightened out or filled or whatever they did. Because of the tow bar the damage was right along the bottom of the doors and the sill and went back to the wheel arch like yours. Hopefully with yours the door took the brunt of the force though. Hopefully it will be OK.

All the best.

Sorry to hear of your accident, it must be gutting. To get to the point:

Mater's recall is correct, generally it has to be around the 60% mark before they consider writing a car off. In case you are not already aware: as liability lies with the other party you are entitled to a courtesy car for the whole time that your car is unusable - this is wouldn't apply for the time you have your car before repairs if it is still perfectly safe to use, nor for the time once you get your car back from the garage. No idea on costs of repairs as it all depends on the amount of damage that you cannot see, but I believe you have a right to specify which garage you want the car to go to - this can be a Skoda maindealer if you wish.

Hope this is of help and your claim goes through smoothly,

Andy

Some people just don't look where they're going. Hope you get it sorted quickly.

The damage is repairable. Couple doors and new sill, and the damaged part of the arch replaced. it shouldnt be that expensive to sort. There was another post in the superb forum of a car which needed simillar parts and it has been repaired to its full glory.

Ouch!!! I bet that hurts

I hope you get it sorted, which ever way you want it to go...

Thanx all, insurance assesor should be with me tommorrow. Do you think I need to specify a skoda dealership for the repairs other wise it will be going to a large accident damage repair centre? Also was a bit concerned the curtain airbags didn`t deploy? Thankyou all again for your replies.

It may be worth finding out if your local dealer has a bodyshop, or if they don't who they use. My local dealer uses the VW garage in Derby as they don't have their own bodyshop.

The airbag might not have deployed if it was a shove rather than a collision but from the way you describe it they should have gone off.

just thought I would add another pic:thumbdwn:

:( sorry to see that, at least you have someone to blame as opposed to 'God' What did they say when they eventually stopped shunting you??

Sorry but it was some baseball cap wearing chav, so he talked street and I couldn`t really understand him.

 at least the sense of yumor hasn't been damaged :)

Gutted for you, remember you posting your car up when you first got it

had a similar thing happen to my focus, and that came in at just over 2k to have repaired so unless the floor pan has been seriously bent Im pretty certain they will just repair your car, at least you shouldnt loose your NCB though I think you still have to declare the incident even though it was in no way your fault

did the little scrote admit liability straight off by the way?

That's pretty substantial. Both doors, sill, wheel arch, rear fender, bumper and light. If the sill or B pillar are bent that should be a write off even where I live.

Doesn't look to me like the curtains would have needed to deploy, after all, even the windows are intact. That's also a good sign in case it's not a write off, there isn't major damage to the car's structure.

I'd be worried the curtain bags didnt go off. But then was anyone sat in that side?

If the seat belts werent in, then perhaps they, and the seat bag, wont deploy?

I think they didn't deploy because it was a harsh scrape rather than an impact. The offending object wasn't aimed at the passenger cell.

If it makes you feel any better, some dozy bint at work dragged a large hose across my nearside wing on friday and scratched it to buggery! It's just a full wing spray repair but it's still a p*sser on a '58 car! Cos nobody saw her ACTUALLY do it and work is highly unlikely to stump up, it's gonna be out of my pocket! Can't believe how soft the paint is on cars nowadays; is it cos it's not solvent based anymore or is it just Skoda's??!!

Not having much luck with my car after some divvy in B&Q put a sill dent in it and drove off without saying anything three days after i'd shelled out for it.

Do you think I need to specify a skoda dealership for the repairs other wise it will be going to a large accident damage repair centre?

The large accident repair centres are very good, but personally I would request it goes to Skoda, especially given the short time that you have owned it. It's no skin off your nose or pocket as to where you want the car to go.

Got my drive assist car today, its a 2.0tdi vw passatt on a 58 plate with the six speed manual box. I am very surprised how much slower it is compared to my octy with the same engine but with dsg.

I take it you never got a reg number, most supermarkets have CCTV in there car parks so you could ask them if the incident is on tape

I think they didn't deploy because it was a harsh scrape rather than an impact. The offending object wasn't aimed at the passenger cell.

I think there has to be a fairly hard bend in the chassis for the sensor to trigger the airbags..

  • 2 weeks later...

Similar damage to mine ish.

I had two nearside door panels replaced at a cost of £1,200 but now the bleeden alarm keeps on going off for no apparent reason. I've tried everything but just left the damn thing unlocked until it goes into the dealership tomorrow!!
