Informational help if you would please!

Now then,

I shant be getting a Fabia for a while yet... but i was just wondering about a few things, if you wouldnt mind answering :)

When i go and look at a Vrs... is there anything i should be looking for? i dont know anything about Vag's at all... so im not sure if theres any tell tale signs to look for. I would do the 5th gear clutch test to see if its slipping, but i didnt know if theres any faults a fabia develops that i should look for.

Also, Maps are unknown to me. I have spent hours... and i mean hours look for different maps for a fabia... with mixed results.

Some people have said celtic tuning are good if you get them to custom map your fabia... but others have said you get huge torque spikes...

I've also look at superchips... but they only offer a remap from 130bhp - 160bhp... whereas Jabbasport and Celtic offer up to 190bhp..

if i get it to 190bhp... realistically... can i expect my clutch to fail within 20-30k of driving, regardless of my drive style?

I'd rather not have to replace the clutch until i actually fit a FMIC and hybrid turbo.

If my location helps with the remap... im in Essex, near colchester.

Give me a computer or I.C.E and i'm a whizzkid.... car's and its a bit bleurgh!

Cheers,

Tom.

True, but all the above questions have been asked and answered many times before.

oh shoosh :P:D

Its a common question. Search is there to answer stuff like this

Welcome to Briskoda. The following link may help you:

Fabia common faults

Regarding remaps:

Jabbasport seems to be one of the most popular choices on here for a decent and well thought out remap.

I personally think you will struggle to see anything over 160hp if you're after a nice smooth map and are not looking to upgrade other things - ie fitting a front mounted intercooler, different injectors etc. 190hp is very ambitious indeed for a remap alone. In light of this you may find this thread useful.

When it comes to choosing which remap the following threads could be useful:

Welcome to Briskoda

As has been said the search button is your friend on buying advice and remaps but Yegnold has pointed you in the right direction of the most useful threads.

My experience of remaps was a generic one carried out on my previous Seat Ibiza TDi quoted as "up to 165bhp". It had a huge spike of power and torque resulting in plenty of wheelspin and not a lot else but plenty of oomph one it calmed down!

My Fabia was custom remapped at Jabbasport 5 days after i picked it up (yes i'm THAT impatient :)). The map is great! It gives a steady climb in torque and power limiting wheel spin (althgouh u can get it with harsh inputs!) and a large band of max power and torque rather than one spike.

Headline figure (with addition of larger PD160 air intake and a freer flowing air filter) is 177bhp but i don't think i'd trust a standard clutch with much more.

A friend has 183bhp also from Jabba but drives round the max torque to avoid mullering the clutch

Hope this helps

Im in colchester too and i asked that last week, seems Jabbasport are the nearest and considered very good.

Soon as my VRS warranty is run out im gonna get her mapped too.

. Looking for a VRS is the same as any other used car. I would be checking it's service history first then how it drives etc. Remaps, the higher the torque figures the shorter lifespan for your clutch & flywheel.

There are meets in your area, Essex & Suffolk occasionally, worth checking them out and glean more info from them.

and the 'oldbies' too!

it really p**&es me off actually.

its as easy to answer with the right info as it is to be a c**k and talk kittens etc twice.

but then I am old and the search button is very small.

Well maybe the same it has been answered dozens of times, so look at "search xxxxx" and you will find all you need to know

However, if all posts were replied to as my suggestion then we would not have a forum at all, just loads of initial posts, with search here end of story single post answers

Thanks for the comments guys (even the sarcasm!)

I did search the forums hence knowing about different maps... but i wanted a question answered tailored to me, not Joe Bloggs.

I will have a look at the remaps closer to the time, as i will be FMICing the car at some point aswel... so if i can get a decent deal on a re-tune after that's done il consider it :)

Welcome matey.

If it's any comfort, I got the 'killing of kittens' comment shortly after joining 3 weeks ago for starting a thread on a subject that had been discussed a couple of months earlier.. Take no notice.;)

In a nutshell, any remap will batter your clutch. It's just not strong enough to cope with 175 bhp if you use all of the available power regulary.

My 1st Fabia clutch started slipping after just 15k with a Revo 'onboard'.

After reading all the varying views and personal preferences you'll simply have to make your own mind up.
