LED number plate bulbs

Featured Replies

As the title suggests, I tried upgrading my number plate bulbs to led, weird thing is, they work for about 2 seconds then go off, but, if you use 1 x led, and 1 x standard bulb they stay on.....really confusing and very annoying, has anyone tried this mod?

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Led bulbs of the wrong sort are not compatible with the octy2, you need to get bulbs with resistors. Without the resistors the octy2 thinks that the bulb has failed because the resistance is wrong and cuts the power to the circuit. You may well also get a bulb failure alert on the dash.

I guessed it would be some sort of problem with them being low voltage....any idea where to get the led type with a resistor so they do work, for the 2 seconds they looked so much better!!

Could someone who knows cut and paste a list of LED bulbs that will work in the octy2 so that the dash warning light does not come on, especially for all of us who don't know a thing regarding electrics

The following bulbs can be upgraded with LED's on the Octavia 2.

All Interior Bulbs

Number Plate Bulbs ( i have mine done and both are working fine and they are not error free ones)

Sidelights (require in-built resistors)

In theory all bulbs can be as long as you use resistors for things like Tail, Brake, Indicator etc.

However i would advise against LED Sidelights. I have tried loads of different types and due to the Sidelight being so close to the headlight they get hot and fail after a couple of months. This could be due to me driving around with my lights on all the time though.

Would be interested to know which numberplate bulbs you bought Carl

Just about to order these, would this fit interior main light?

If no, do you have any idea on the size of buld im after.

G

No you need a 44mm bulb to fit the interior light.

The sizes for interior bulbs are as follows

Front Interior Light

2 x W5W Bulbs for Map Lights

1 x 44mm Festoon Bulb for main light

Rear Interior light

1 x 44mm Festoon Bulb

Door Lights (to alert people that your door is open)

1 x 36mm 272 Festoon Bulb per door

Boot Lights

2 x W5W Bulbs (1 either side)

Number Plate Light

2 x 36mm 272 Festoon Bulb

i paid a tenner for two led bulbd from halfrauds, fitted them and they looked fine until...... when i needed to turn the lights on when i was driving along, got an orange bulb warning light on the dash and maxidot topld me to check the rear numerplate lights. They were both working fine but the ECU obviously didnt like them so have now reverted back to the old ones and the wearning light has dissapeared.

So got my LED number plate bulds today, fitted them and...................... they didnt work. Stayed on for all of 2 secs and went out. So ive put one in my interior light, fitted nicely.

I can't understand why they don't work in your car when they work in both of mine :S

You defo got both bulbs in the right way round? Oh and you need both bulbs to be in. if you try just one it goes out after a couple of seconds.

As this thread has been revived, I may try the ones you recommend, but I will blame you if they don't work. ;)

Also, before you say it, I started this thread in April last year, so I can't be accused of copying. :p :D

And as I have had LED bulbs in mine for about 18 months I reckon you did :p

You should be ok. As I said I have put them in both my cars and they work fine

Carl, had both bulbs in, turned sidelight on to make sure both where working. Then screwed them back in, checked again if still working. Gets into the car, puts the lights on full started the engine & then the warning light came on.

Mine did that the other day. I have found that if you first start the engine and then turn lights on it all works fine.

I also found that if the warning light comes on when not starting the engine just turn the headlights off start the engine and turn back on and the light goes out.

Although I don't have any probes with mine now

Gonna update this.

I retried my led number plate lights, found out how to get them to work. May be different from others,

But mines only work if I start the engine without any lights out, wait a few seconds then turn the lights on and they stay on.

Happy days, zero warning lights.

Gonna do my interior bulbs this week, does anyone know wot type of bulb the glovey needs?
