Castle Combe Action Day 2009 Prep: 1 hour time limit

Featured Replies

I gave myself 1 hour to sort out the car a little for the action day on Saturday.

I washed the car thoroughly last week including the door sills and insides of the doors, the undersides of the body panels and the wheels, so this time I was looking at giving the car a quick rinse and getting at least one coat of wax on so that at least some beading occurs should it rain on Saturday :D

Last time I also polished the majority of the car using 'Stirling SM7 polish' (by hand).

I gave the car a quick rinse over with water through a pressure washer (I have a Stihl machine) which brought the car to look really clean anyway as I had polished it last week (so a lot of dirt just came off with the rinse)

I then washed the car with Megs car wash and a lambs wool wash mitt, with a grit guard in the bucket.

I then rinsed the car and dried with a waffle weave drying towel.

Then I applied a coat of wax to the whole car (don't go on at me about 1 panel at a time, I couldn't be bothered to do that :D). The wax I have is called 'Stirling Concours Wax' (I won it in a raffle :D)

I then buffed the whole thing up to a reasonable shine. I put two coats on the bonnet and roof as they are horizontal surfaces and I like the beading look on those :D

Here is the car after a quick post-wax rinse. I rinsed the car because the wax dust annoys me and always seems to embed itself in the black plastic trim if I don't rinse!

I like the beading on the roof and bonnet :)

Im going to be pushed for time after preparing my golf for the race on sunday so a quick jet wash may be in order lol.

Sorry, did i just say the forbidden word?

I miss my old car now. :(

Missed a bit.................. :P

I've got to do Suze............... a cleaning jobbie tomorrow. Pity I can't go :o

your paint work is orange isnt it meant to be red   :P

That's what you get for taking pictures with a crap camera set up incorrectly. ;) It is actually a very dark red and looks like it just came out of the factory - very pleased! :D

I properly cleaned and then rainxd all of the windows (including windscreens) today so hopefully even if it rains tomorrow the car will look cool!

Bit disappointed that I didn't completely dry the car after the post-wax rinse yesterday so I have ******* water marks all over the car. Given the forecast for tomorrow though I guess that that will be the least of my worries :D

Looks like an hour well spent, good work...........

Shame I didn't set up the camera properly though - the red actually looks much much better than that. Aside from the odd swirl marks (esp. on the bonnet) and the stone chips the colour looks smack on! You'll see tomorrow, hopefully ;)

I've decided I've got another couple of hours this evening so the plan is to 'properly' clean and wax all four wheels. If I have time left over I may then try to make the interior look a little tidier - should just be a matter of a hoover and a damp cloth to get rid of some of the dust!

I bet I'll end up washing the bodywork again as well as the car is covered in dust at the moment :(

I sure hope there is a tap there, as once the rain clears I'm going to be doing a full on 2 bucket clean and wipe down with microfibre cloth. As it stands, the outside is mucky now, but it's not being cleaned due to the driving conditions tomorrow morning early on.... Absolutely no point in cleaning it at all now.

Why the hell would there be a tap in the middle of a racing circuit? :D

It's a car show too, so people are going to want to clean their cars. There must be a tap (I bloody hope! :D)

Take it through an automated car wash before. Oh, wait, :D /o\

End result of three and a half hours of messing around with wheels and sorting out the crap that was caked in to my spokes, this is the result.

I used some acidic wheel cleaner which I've forgotten the name of, soapy water and then coated each wheel with one layer of the wax I used to do the rest of the car.

I spent a long time - much longer than most - not really sure how I managed to take so long really given that the wheels still aren't perfect!

1: (please note terrible kerb marks were there before I owned this car ;))

Yep there are quite a few taps in the tarmac paddock area.

2 bucket method coming up for me then. :D I'm lucky the layer of wax on it is still strong so it should be little more than a rinse-off, dry and tarting-up (and again after the track session I suppose :o)
