High insurance

Featured Replies

Ok,

I think i'm paying to high for my insurance.

Currently its £1100 for fully comp on a 2008 octavia vrs tdi pd. Age 35, I have 3 years no claims(proof) and use it for business and pleasure - i'm covered for around 24,000 business miles a year. Named drivers are myself and the misses both with no points or at fault accidents.

I had a quote for a remap and was quoted £2200 - i'm more interested in the fuel economy than performance.

Am i being shafted? I had a calibra redtop (150 bhp), saab 9-3 convertible (150bhp) and they were a lot cheaper to insure than the vrs and i was younger with no insurance history to my name as i've had company cars before.

The postcode hasn't changed and i drive like miss daisy FFS:mad:

Is it the business miles that bump that up? I pay just over £300 for my vRS and I thought that was a lot!

My insurance has gone up this year  by about £80 to £400 for my Fabia Vrs.

I'm a bit peeved to say the least as there is no change in my circumstances

My excess has gone up £50 too.

I phoned M&S who it's through and after waffling on for 20 minutes the gist of it is all insurances are going up apparently but he said "Well let's have a look and see what we can do for you blah, blah, blah". Result of me hanging on the phone for about half an hour was a reduction of 23p a month. WOW... :rotz:

I did use the price comparison sites and did get cheaper quotes but to get the cover I wanted I'd be paying the same kind of figure once you add on Legal Protection, Courtesy car, etc...

Business insurance didn't add that much to be honest - i did find out they added £200 for non fault accidents i had in my old company car even though the other party was at fault and they both paid out without a problem (rear ended twice)

The reason i was told for the higher premium was " the insurance company still had to chase for the money in the claims"

mmmm...... so i'm a carefull driver but still get screwed for muppets thats can't judge a braking distance - makes me wonder why i bother to get insurance.

I originally set up the insurance through "more than" at £600 but they insured the car by saying on the details that my company owned it. They then said they will rewrite the cover and honour the price. Telephone call later saying no we cant do it and would have to be requoted - £900:eek::eek:. Sod off another requote inhouse and it went to £1100 at which point i put the phone down and went back on line as i needed cover quickly as i was picking the car up the next day and using it for work. hence the £1100.

That seems excessive, i wasn't paying that much on a breathed on Vectra V6 with 9pts for speeding. Only paying 380 on my Octy VRS

P

Yikes!

Whats the first part of your postcode (ie NW1), current insurer and where is it kept at night?

Could be your insurer doesnt want VRS' on its books, so is pricing them out.

my mk1 4x4 with lots and lots of mods is only around £700 per year and i can insure an S4(2.7TT) for about £350 fully comp :)

27, had licence for 10 years and got 6 years NCB.

Postcode is cv6 - coventry. now according to the post code register thats not to good but my parents live in a far better part of coventry and thats classed as the same as my postcode so i dont think its postcode problems. As i said i had a calibra and saab 9-3 and i had 6 points on the calibra and no no claims either but my premium was better?

I went on a few comparison websites again last night and my new best quote was £715 with swift, so its time to go to my insurance company and say lower it or i'll cancel and go cheaper.

WOW thats a lot im 22 with a vrs 170bhp estate 3 years no claims and i pay £526 and thats including business use , and i got that through swift, which i was well chuffed with seeming as i was payin £900 on my old 1.6 vectra.

Yep - too much.

I live on Merseyside (probably comparable in postcode), park on the street, do 25,000 miles a year including business use. Insuring an 07 plate vRS TDi.

Difference between OP and me is that I'm 28 years old, so should be more expensive. I do have 6 years NCD though.

I'm paying £649 this year, with Direct Line. They were originally quoting nearly £750 but Priviledge quoted at £650 and DL agreed to beat it, and lower the excess.

Sounds like way too much. I'm paying £350 for a 1.8T, 37 y.o, 6 years NCB, parked on street (E17), NCB protected, but it is Social use only of less than 5k a year, although this may change the way I've been driving lately. I think to add remap and up to 15k miles takes it to £500ish. This is with Adrian Flux. Worth giving them a call

Im only 22 and paying £561 a year on a 2.0T Petrol VRS, Fully Comp with 5 years no claims. This is with Tecos, All the other were quoteing me about £100 a month

Saw you coming!!

me you ask? 22 years old, 5 year NCD 1.6 escort not quite standard but 'enhancements' (nothing visual) declared, 1 speeding fine of 3 points, £300 this year to insure. living just outside london in dartford
