Fabia seems to hate sitting still

Featured Replies

Ok i have had my 2000 1.4 16v (100bhp) fabia for coming up to 2 years now. It was behaving itself until recently. Whenever the car sits still the rpm can range from 800 to 1200 and the car is vibrating like mad, can be seen if you are next to the car. I took it to skoda and initially they said that one of the cyclinders wasnt firing so suggested a spark plug change and this was carried out.

Still the problem remained and the ignition leads have been replaced, and a service was carried out. Noone seems to be able to tell me how to cure this, anyone got any bright ideas?

cheers for any input

i know i got bad idling and bad performance with my old corsa when my crankshaft sensor went, dunno if this could be the prob, only had the furby a few days!

Do a search (and save a kitty) - very common problem on the 1.4 16v engine (perhaps more especially the AUB, not sure about the later version but if it is the same fundamentals then no reason why not). A range of possibilities, clean the breather hose, throttle body and do a throttle body alignment using vag com. Put in some redex and go for an Italian tune up, check/change engine temp sensor, check power steering angle sensor if you also get excessively dimming/flickering headlights, check HT leads, coil pack and spark plugs and just generally get it checked over with vag com to see if there are any sensors or readings out of normal range.

Another vote for cleaning the throttle housing. Common problem. . . .If the throttle housing looks brown and gloopy, it will benifit from some carb cleaner.

clean as a whistle, still not fixed. Took it for its 4th visit to skoda in 4 months, and they have no idea.

How long does it take you to use a tank of fuel? I used to get this on my VW Polo if the fuel was more than 10 days old.
