Remap? Head done in

Featured Replies

Agghhh - my head's mashed with this now  I'm determined to get a remap done and need to get a Whiteline RARB and Powerflex dogbone bushes fitted at the same time, but where the hell do I go?

The choices so far are:

1. AMD Technik in Essex – £400 generic remap + £100 labour for RARB and bushes

2. Impossible Performance – £350ish for generic remap + £??? labour for RARB and bushes

3. SCC in St Albans – £400 Superchips generic remap + £53 labour for RARB and bushes

4. Angel Tuning – £300 generic remap + £??? labour for RARB and bushes

5. Any others within an hour or so of NE London?

I need help… :D

6 - Custom tuning.co.uk generic postal remap £95 (plus weeks of grief trying to sort out broken car afterwards...)

sorry...couldn't resist. just DON'T do it!

Thanks for the wise words jonny

You're welcome dude. On a positive note, ECU evolutions are now repairing my ECU and putting their standard (£100) postal remap on it instead - so far I've only heard positive things about them, and they certainly seem to know what they are talking about...

I'll let you know for sure when I get my car back!

There's also another one just thrown it's hat into the ring :

APS in Berkamstead. Remap for £300 and labour of about £50.

Anyone got any experience with these guys? I heard that some of them came from the old AMD Technik crowd

EDIT: Just realised their head office is Berkamstead but the workshop's Brackley:eek:

Thanks everyone. I've decided on Angel Tuning in Tunbridge Wells. Remap £320; labour £50. Booked in Thursday and a nice drive from London to Wiltshire on Saturday to test it all out

I'll post the results after the bank holiday

Hey jonny,

was there any update to your remap saga? I read the story the other night and it sounded like a nightmare. Hope you got it all sorted, with Custom Tuning paying some of the expense

Getting nowhere at the moment. Chris at ECU evolutions sent my ECU to his file writer, who spent a whole day trying to repair a "RAM" I think, but he was unable to. He said it was too badly corrupted to be rewritten (or something like that)

The upshot is, I now need a new (or second hand) ECU.

Custom tuning have basically said

"it's nothing to do with us. Take us to court if you want to, and we will do the same to you"

Are you pleased with your remap??:D

Jesus, sounds like a nightmare. I thought the ECU could just be overwritten with a map that works? That's how much I know  I hope you get it sorted. A harsh lesson to learn I suppose.

I haven't had the remap done yet. Thursday's the big day so I'll post comments after bank holiday.

How the deuce do you corrupt Random Access Memory? This is normally volatile storage that gets cleaned out every time you take the power off it (so at most disconnect battery negative, count to 10, and reconnect; might even be flushed every time you switch the engine off).

Corrupting the values in an Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory chip I could see, but it should be possible to reflash those if you knew what the corrupted values were.

I'm not working in automotive applications, but I am a qualified software engineer.

Whooosh (that's the sound of stuff going over my head)

so how does something fook the ECU?

cant you just get a std vrs and copy the hole lot over? or is it not that simple?

Id take the fookers to court! thats pathetic! mind it does show not to go for postal or cheap maps. same happened to me, only my ecu was salvagable.

all the best
