Cheapest way to insure Skoda Fabia Classic at 17!

Featured Replies

So I'm 17, bought myself a nice skoda fabia estate 1.4 classic, 2002 plate, have passed my theory and going along nicely on my lessons and want to start worrying about my insurance on it.

Just wondered, anyone else out there who insured a fabia at my age, who are the people to go with? I know a lot of things effect it, but is there generally someone cheap on Skodas for our age group?

All your comments and help, to keep my pocket with a bit more money, are very apprechiated.

I got a quote for £1700 from direct line as a provisional (and also the same when i pass, which i thought was strange...) which was the cheapest.

Cheers,

Dave

Have you done confused.com yet?

Get one or both your parents on your policy as named drivers.

Just do what everyone else does, try all the comparison sites, then try the sites that dont sign up to be on comparison sites. Then try the companies in the back of boy racer mags, Max Power, etc. who specifically deal with lads of your age, being a stock car they may offer you cheaper. Being 17 its going to be a hefty price for anything over 1.1 I would say.

£1700 sounds alright for your age/car :)

try swift.;)

That's the best piece of advice that often gets forgotten. Put the car in your name and add one or two older family members to drive and it will bring your premiums down. It doesn't matter if they ever drive the car or not really.

Just DON'T put it their name down as main driver .But then , aren't there some companies that let you earn NCB as a named driver on some one else's policy ??But then the others must drive the car .;)

EDIT -oh ,try going for pass plus after you're test- BEFORE the bad habits creep in - reputed to save you some money .

Yep, I clearly said put the car in YOUR name and ADD one or two family members onto the policy.

Putting the car in a parent's name and driving it regularly is a bad move and won't gain you anything in the long run, even if you do get away with it.

I hope you're keeping it off road, else you're committing an offense not having it insured now.

Hi there, I drive a skoda fabia 1.4 MPI at 17

Hahahah, I found exactly that. For some reason when I get quotes off Admiral they come out about 200-300 cheaper than the rest (1300ish at 19 in my skoda fabia 1.9 SDi) and not much more next year for a VRS oh dear

2 older people who have been driving for a while added to the policy worked about 200quid of savings magic onto my quote too, You can get 'cheap' insurance just keep working at it

I had a Fabia 1.4 mpi comfort at 18 (first year of driving), it was 1200 3rd F&T, with a claim and 3 points. I used Endsleigh who brokered for Zurich. They give a student discount which is larger than 1 years no claims.

Check out adrianflux - i am with yesinsurance and paid 2100 for my 00 MPi and im 17. I did a quote with adrianflux and i think the insurers i go on there was provident.. got a quote for 1300. give them a try! might even get a discount being a member on this forum!

yeah this is the way to do it... knocked mines from 1200 on a vrs to 620 :D!!!

can get an M3 now im 21 for £1500 .... hmmm

oh and admiral and elephant are the best for young drivers.... go direct too ;)

I'd try quinn-direct... on my second year i'm at £950. First year on car on the same insurance group was ~£1350. I'm 18.

My brother(18) is insured with them on a 2000 1.4 16v fabia comfort £1800 F/comp

I'm third party, fire & theft.

That's very expensive!

I was quoted that on my 2nd year of policy holding with a claim and 3 points. I agree that that is an expensive quote!

Are these quotes for a lump sum premium, or paid over a 10 or 12 month period?

Some insurers will be about 20% cheaper if you can pay it all at once.

My first policy cost me £970 for an Astra 1.4.

I was 23 at the time though!!!

Before that when I got quotes for cars back in 2000 it wasn't pretty!!! No mater the car £1500 easy for comprehensive cover.

As others suggest have one of your parents as a named driver.

Quinn always come up competative for youngsters, Tesco are good for 2nd policies where there is already 1 car in the household and taken out in your parents name with you as a named driver but you still earn NCB in your own right and transferrable to some other ins. cos. Haggle with Tesco to give you/parents instant no. of years NCB providing your parents have a claim free history. I managed 4yrs. NCB for my daughters car and policy cost was £463 for us.

try swift.;)

I'd have to reccomend swiftcover too. I got my first car when I was 21 (driving since 17) but I had no no claims bonus. I had a fabia 1.4 MPI and it was about £450 ish for me on my own. At the time Ii found it put the price up adding my Mum/Dad to the policy, but its worth trying anyway. After 11 months I couldnt wait any longer and chopped it in for a vRS. When my renewal came the price only went up a tenner for the vRS, but I had my first year of NCB. Now Im coming up to the renewal again and swiftcover are still cheapest by miles. Down to 370 now all fully comp.

Good luck mate!
