Funny scrappage story

Just thought I would pass this on.

I was walking past the Citroen showroom in Hemel and outside was a M-reg Rover metro with large sticker saying "£2000 for your old car" stuck across the side. It was designed to tell punters "hand in a car like this and get 2K off one of our new ones". The car was burgundy, really clean apart from a small amount of rear wheel arch corrosion and only 22k on the clock. Inside was really nice - almost new.

After admiring the car for a few minutes a salesman came out and asked if we needed any help. I said I was just admiring the Metro and he confided that the Metro had been getting more attention than the new cars that were supposed to tempt you. There was already a list of people wanting the Metro and even the trade were interested.

There is still a very strong demand for clean, reliable and cheap cars.

The thing I don't get with these offers is if you are driving an old car, the chances are you won't have the money for a brand new one. Or are they after signing you up to finance??

Yup! Anything to get their sales figures up and get some money from you!

And yes agree that there is still quite a demand for cheap reliable motors as they are actually affordable (you can go in and pay in full with cash and not have to borrow with expensive repayments).

I like the idea of the scheme but just don't think it will actually help people with these old cars anyway. Maybe cutting the repayment costs and the interest that would encourage more people.

I like it, how is chucking in an older car in perfect running order for scrap to get a new car environmentally friendly? If the government said that this was to stimulate car sales, i'd have some respect for them but all this "green" (blimey i've said it) claptrap is just nonsense:mad:

Yup... I think that is the governments main goal with it really... to get money into the economy again.
