turbo replacement

Featured Replies

Following on from my other thread,

http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/turbo-woes/143276/

I had my turbo replaced last week at a cost of £1165 (parts, labour and vat). :rotz: Turbo itself was £650 ex vat.

Apart from re-quoting the price of the turbo at £850 halfway through the job (misunderstanding on the garages part) all seemed well with the service I got from QRSport QRSport, Chester and Oulton Park Audi, Volkswagen, VAG group specialist: Servicing, tuning and motorsport parts - QRS

i got the old turbo back from the garage so thought I show the piccies! The shaft is totally collapsed and seized.

I was a bit afraid to open it up once I got it back so maybe that was why it did not feel the same, anyway after running it for a few days on standard, switched the remap back on and it feels even better.

They said in the combustion chambers, once they took the glow plugs out they could turn the engine with the oil coming out.

Youch!

Had my 1.9TDI (KKK VNT) turbo pack in at xmas, although the intake compressor blades were no where near as bad as that. The garage found the remains of the exhaust wheel lodged in the catalytic convertor!

That's one of the reasons I got rid of my octavia - I didn't want to be paying for a new turbo.

The first one lasted to 54k but they seem to go at quite a bit less than that for some people and I was on 71k and would have done another 24k this year.

I know this may seem a daft question, but could you bypass the turbo if it fails and run normally aspirated

I was wondring that too. In theory you probably could but the electronics would probably get in the way first. :rotz:

I am well past 71K miles now on turbo number one, adding more than 400 miles per week. In six weeks time, mine is going to be making a 4K mile round trip. The 4K miles will be done over a period of 2 weeks, lets hope mine doesnt go wrong whilst on the Costa del Sol.

After reading some of the horror stories of turbos going out of warranty, is it mainly the 2ltr 140 tdi or the chipped ones that go, or does it happen to them all, I have reached 88k so far unchipped

Any info from those in the know would be appreciated as swmbo is looking to change her 130 superb but the 1,9 105 is a bit underpowered for towing the house on wheels

can you still get the MK1 with the 130 I know they still sell them new from the taxi centre but only in 90 form

Mine was standard and hadn't been abused at all when it went.

It seems to be quite random - some will last well and others fail more quickly
