Cleaning Alloys

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I have had my vRS for just about 12 months and its time to pull my finger out and get it properly cleaned and polished to go with its service. When I got the car the wheels were utterly mint and after having had no run ins with curbs I see no reason why they can't look that good again.

I was just wondering what people reccomend - I have tried wonder wheels and found it okay but it certainly didn't remove all grime. eBay seems to have loads of people selling bulk containers of acid based cleaners aimed at the valet market - these any good? will there be any alloy left?

I would be interested to know what others use,

Cheers

Rich

Don't buy the acid based ones unless you have seriously dirty alloys and want to clean the insides. A much better bet is to go for Bilberry or Megs Wheel Brightener which can be diluted. Don't let any dry and wash off with plenty of running water.

Leave the wonder wheels on a tiny bit longer, agitate a bit more with a brush. If wonder wheels won't shift whatever is on your wheels I don't think there is a lot on the market that will be able to without damaging the laquer :(

I'll move this to the car care section :)

Wonder wheels is scary - I'd stay well clear

I clayed my wheels - time consuming but it got rid of everything.

There is always a product for everything.........:D

Have to agree here, Wonder Wheels isn't that safe but as had been suggested something like Megs Wheels Brightner is a great product or Bilberry and along with some AS Tardis and Clay you should be able to make them look how they used to but I would suggest removing them to get the best 'clean wheel' look.........

I'm not saying regular use of wonder wheels is ideal, but for removing that massive build up of brake dust it does a remarkable job if used correctly and the laquer beneath is in good condition ;)

As seen in my recent threads I rarely use it any more as my alloys are practically wipe clean thanks to a couple of layers of wax, applied after some more advice from you Simon :)

Another vote for Billberry from me , best stuff i have used

Another vote for billberry here to! it's also good on the exhaust

Yep I also use Billberry its great stuff smells nice to best to take them off also seal them with some poorboys wheel sealer

Fully agree it has it's use, i normally only use it after i buy a car to get the last few years of dust off, but only if the paint and lacquer are in good condition (not bubbling up or any curb damage)
