Problem after cambelt change (black smoke!)

Featured Replies

I had the cambelt on my 04 fabia vrs changed last week. When driving I thought I was getting some extra smoke out of the exhaust, but wasnt sure, until now!

As I was driving the car started kangarooing with a loss of power and black smoke coming out the exhaust. The engine also makes a fair bit of noise. This noise and power lose is not constant however, it comes and goes at a steady rate.

When parked and in neutral and the engine is reved, it seems fine.

Any help on this mate would be greatly appreciated!

Possibly a boost hose is leaking after the work done, but could also be cambelt has not been done correctly. Take it back mate.

Boost pipe come off for sure.

cheers for your help guys, bad timing that its a bank hol this weekend tho!!

i done this on mine lol, boost hose was a little loose

Probably a boost leak (even probably from one of the intercooler connections), esp if there's any sort of whistling noise associated. Other possibility (not likely with a PD) would be the fuel timing being a tooth off.
