Felicia 1.3 rattles and bumps

Featured Replies

Hiya folks, just bought an 'S' plate felicia 1.3 to teach my son to drive. It's done 84K miles, full years MOT and has had ten dealer services. It looks the part and internally is spotless...however ....I've never had a car that was such a symphony of rattles and thumps while being driven. My local independant garage has had a quick look and reckons that the front shockers probably need replaced and perhaps a new wheel bearing.I've booked it in for this work but think there's more to it than just these things.Does anyone know if there's any other common causes for the noise. OK, so I didn't pay a lot of money but It's really spoiling my enjoyment of this little car.

welcome

Hiya.

As Simbo99 says, you should check out the Favorit, Felicia et al forum, where we seem to know everything about them, including how to do major engine transplants (Vw 2.0l for example), and even the rare carburetor 1.3l non-European export model.

My 1.3 Felicia is quite a talker too. Every time I drive it, I get a different resonation from the exhaust, or interior. That's not bad, it just means the car has things to tell you :D Of course you could start going through all the sound sources but at least in my car's case I don't see why. It's because of the noises I've even given my car his name: Porky (the Pig) :)

Then again, my car doesn't make noises from the front shock area, so I'm not sure would they be worth fixing. The noises my car makes are clearly eg. because the exhaust resonates against the frame etc.

Welcome to Club Felicia martinlupton!!!

Porky!!!!! people have got some wacky names for their Felly's!!!

I have a Favorit and my Dad thinks the engine sounds rattly. There are a few rattles and squeaks here and there but she is mechanically sound and solid.

You'll know if the front shocks need replacing if the bottom spring cups have corroded, theres a sticky on this thread.

Don't let a few minor niggles spoil your enjoyment. The Felicia is a great little car that is good to drive too.

The only other way to be sure if anything else needs doing is to have the car examined by someone, and make notes of odd behavior when on the road.

Other bits

Watch the brake pipes, if these get copper greased about every 2 years you'll be fine.

Rust - Wheel arches and bootlid are first places. Washed and waxed regularly this won't pose a problem

About the 1.3 engine though.......I'm a newb to that engine so even I have to ask the veteran members on here
