Following you at the last meet you certainly weren't driving in a numb, boring manner... the smoke certainly gave that one away!

I wondered why you put your fog lights on?

It doesn't seem to smoke as much as my old 90bhp did,

but the turbo (police siren) is definitely louder.

I open the window and slow down going into tunnels to get the full effect!

A mate has a ibiza tdi (granted running 260bhp) but that sounds amazing going up the strip. Another mate, also a member on here (chris with the fabia SE) has jus fitted a miltek and decat, sounds very nice, much improved over std.

what has speed got to do with feel, excitement and enjoyment?

Who mentioned speed?

him.

Actually Bengie I've decided you're right after all.

My diesel car is numb & boring, it lacks feel, experience & enjoyment.

Fortunately you've already stated that diesels are cheap & fast,

so I'll just have to make do with that instead,

as my aspirations are quite low anyway.

cheers .. Darren

its only the engines i generally dislike, well not dislike at thats too strong, its not that i actually dislike them but i find diesels boring, a decent petrol(not all of them obviously, some are cack) is far more fun and exciting due to build up, sound and power delivery. i have an 80's turbo hot hatch that doesn't start to spool until 3-4k and doesn't hit peak torque until something like 5500rpm and peak power at about 6500rpm but once moving it flies and its great fun and quite an exciting drive but shocking on fuel :D

forgot to say, unless you throw buckets and buckets of cash at them they aren't generally fast either, they might feel it but they aren't. :)

Ive just got rid of my R32 and kept my fabia(long story)

I must admit the noise the Golf made was rather nice

but

The noise your car makes isnt everything

So i now tell myself:rotz:

Maybe it's me that just strange, but if I'm walking into town, the engines / exhausts that I think sound nice are on trucks / buses / vans / taxis. The only petrols that make me look around are Scoobies /Beetles & Harleys.

Then again, I drive for a living, albeit slightly bigger diesels that rev to 900rpm but produce over 100,000lb/ft of torque. Although nearly all of the English 4 strokes have gone now, so I have to make do with American 2 strokes instead. Luckily I get to see some pretty big boats when I'm at the docks and they sound rather nice too ....

In my car I don't put the aircon on very often, as I like to have the window down in town to listen to the engine!

Is there a helpline I should call?

Im a bus driver, and erm, rather like the sound of some of the engines, esp compared to others lol

coming home from work in lane 1 yesterday evening, the traffic in lane 3 cleared which allowed a Cerbera to let rip and even with my windows up that sounded nice.

I can't imagine driving my Ibiza with the windows down to hear the engine as it sounds like a tractor, even more so with the SMF :thumbdwn:

I must say I'm with you there... not a huge fan of raspy petrol kind of sounds but like the big roar you get from bigger vehicles or dervs.

Love the engine on my bus... a 6.0 litre cummins straight six turbo charged diesel jobby... sounds great when you rev it. Something I learnt recently is that dodge used the same engine in some old 4x4 trucks in america!

I'm often a lazy driver anyway so leave it in a higher gear and accelerate so diesels are pretty good at that but must admit that it is a nice feeling to have a petrol screeming to get you moving!

I think you need to look on youtube for dodge & cummins diesels, there's some surprising drag racing results, dyno runs & smoke stacks & even smoke switches!

Or for some slightly bigger stuff ....

Hmm, I wonder who was driving that ?

Or for some extreme pyrotechnics ....

I don't think there is much one can do to make a 4 pot oil burner sound fruity:)

oh, goodie, another excuse for this:

that's 2 minutes 5 seconds of exactly why youtube is the best site on the net

I was rudely wakened by something sounding just like that the other morning, and it wasn't even wednesday...:thumbdwn:

Did I just spot a little Parklife reference there
