Lets get a definitive wheel size sticky?

Featured Replies

Hi there i'm thinking along the lines of a similar sticky in the maint and performance area titled "Skoda running costs" but for rims and tyres. WITHOUT PICS as this stretches the topic over lots of pages. ONLY FOR FABIA 1 also.

Details required would be:

1: Size of rims including width also (16" X 7")

2: exact spec of tyres you have fitted (205/45/16)

3: how far you have had the car lowered

4: did you have to mod the arches in anyway for the wheels to fit correctly.

5: Did you require the speedo recalibrating

Once a few people (hopefully) have added thier details i could edit the post so that it would be easy to see:

1:What is the largest size rims i can fit to my Furby?

2:I have "X" size rims how low can i go without modding the arches?

3: What is the max size of rims i can put on my Furby including any required mods?

I would start the post off with my own details but as i don't own a Furby yet, i can't. I would just like to help out as i know how annoying i can be seeing the same posts over and over again but from different people. (I have done it myself before but only the once)

So Far without mods required

16" rims allow max drop without mods to arches 55mm all round

17" rims allow max drop without mods to arches 55mm front 45mm rear

18" rims allow max drop without mods to arches 50mm drop front 60mm rear

SEE THUMBNAIL FOR TYRE SIZES

AND

BEAR IN MIND THAT THIS IS ONLY A GUIDE TO CLEAR UP THE REPEATED POSTS ABOUT TYRE SIZES, IF YOU ARE UNSURE YOU SHOULD STILL ASK A PROFESSIONAL

1. OEM 16" Alloys.

2. Sumo-Firenza ST-08 205/45/16 standard size tyres.

3. Lowered around 60mm on AP coilovers.

4. Arches need cutting slightly because droplinks touch the liner on full lock over bumps

5. N/A

In answer to your question, I am sure you could fit 19" if you got the correct width, probably 7.5" or 8" with ultra skinny tyres, but whether it would be worth it is another question entirely.

Most people are in agreement that 16" or 17" provide the best compromise between comfort, reliability, handling and looks, with 17s leaning toward looks and 16s toward the rest.

Most people agree 18s are horrible. But there are exceptions.

Provided the ET of the wheels is between 32 and 40 I am sure you could lower 60mm with few problems.

17s require 205/40 or 215/40 tyres. Any bigger is unsuitable.

Just looking at some 'aftermarket' 17x7.5 wheels... offset 35mm-45mm bolt pattern 5x100-5x112......RS4 Audi / VW style supplied with 215/45x17 tyres... would these fit

My car is a standard Fabia vRS currently on 16 OEM wheels.

1: 17" Skoda Octavia vRS wheels

2: Hankook V12 215/17/40

3: OEM setup

4: No arch mods needed

5: NA

I'll edit this post later in the week when I have a picture.

1: 7.5x17 - et38 - TT Comps

2: Falkens 205/40/17's

3: 55/45mm on Bilstein Streeetline kit

4: None

5: n/a

1- 18x7.5" et 37, Team Dynamics Pro Race 2's

2- Toyo T1R's 215/35R18

3- Dropped 70mm all round rubbed on front arches. raised 20mm front and 10 rear

So 50mm drop front 60mm rear no issues!

4- New archliners as they'd scrubbed through

5- Speedo is more accurate to GPS than when running 16's

In one of the above stickies there is a thread showing all the standard sized wheels and tyres of the full Fabia I range. Here Briskoda - Fabia tyre pressures It also shows what the recommended pressures for them are.

It would be nice to also have a definitive sticky about what makes/models of tyre people recommend for the Fabia, to save those poor innocent kittens from being killed when someone asks without searching.

I take it that you have had no problems with the new liners?

Cheers for the posts so far!

No, None

5: No speedo adjust necessary

That's me done.
