Variable service indicator

mbscad...probably the safest option...Skoda really don't seem to have everyone singing off the same hymsheet though, do they ! How hard can it be to reset a service indicator.

I've all but given up on resolving some of the issues I have...I'll try to just put up with them until I get rid.

Hi Harveys,

I've just had a very similar situation to the one you described and I thought I would log on to Briskoda to get the full SP.

My spanner came on with 2800 miles (no days) then 2700 miles and a day later flashing spanner with no miles at all (I'm on variable servicing). Having read this thread, I now realise that it is time (one year) and not mileage related. It's still very confusing however, when you believe that you still have another 2800 miles left to arrange a service.

I think that I will adopt the same approach as you and change to fixed service interval and then at least I will know where I am.

How many miles have you done since last service? Remember variable will decide when a service is needed either by time, mileage, or oil quality. You can also trigger it by holding the button too long when you check miles left. Which Is why I dont bother checking at all. Why? You know the min is 10k, max 18k or 2 years.

Your issue is with your dealer not Skoda. Dont blame Skoda for using what is obv a poor dealership chain.

My octy was serviced in March when i bought the car,had to take it back the other day because it came on the display that a service was needed in 800 miles can't remember how many days it said. The dealer told me they had forgot to switch some light off or something and had now reset it for the next service which is stamped in my book at 31900 miles or March 2011,which seems a long time to me to go between services. The car is now at 13295 miles and looks like im on the variable service too,as looking in my service book it's got marked QG1 which refers to as being on the variable service according to the service book guide section.I know the oil they used was Shell Helix Ultra 5w30.

Of course you are correct, but at the end of the day...the local dealer will make or break the brand for that area...in my case the confidence is broken.

I would complain to SUK/VAG UK if I were you ;)

it's the only way things are likely to improve.

Hello I am new to this game. Having followed this thread I think that I should switch to fixed.

That said, as I am due to go to France for a couple of weeks and will cover some long distances, I need to check when my next (variable) service is due. Can anyone explain how I do this please?
